Karo Parisyan Out of UFC 88

Karo parisyan From UFC.com

A last-minute back injury has forced welterweight contender Karo Parisyan to withdraw from his UFC 88 bout with Yoshiyuki Yoshida. Saturday’s UFC 88 card (pay-per-view 10pm ET / 7pm PT) will continue with nine bouts

Fightlinker is already howling:

You always give fighters the benefit of the doubt, but with all that talk of Karo’s serious anxiety disorder over the past few weeks, am I being callous to suggest that we’re not getting the entire story here?

If Karo isn't really injured, this could be all she wrote for one of my all-time favorite fighters.

UPDATE:  Luke has pointed out to me that speculating that the reasons for Karo pulling out of the fight without any evidence that it's NOT a back injury is irresponsible and the reason Dana hates blogs. He's right and I feel pretty guilty, especially since Karo is absolutely one of my favorite fighters.

Sherdog is reporting
that they've confirmed that it IS a back injury:

Randy Couture, one of Parisyan’s primary training partners, said the fighter “put his back out” some time between Thursday evening and Friday morning and was having difficulty walking.

On the other hand, Steve Cofield is adding to the speculation that there's more to it than that, based on his recent interview with Karo, Cofield says he's "not surprised" that Karo pulled out of the fight.

Bummer

One of the few wars I was looking forward too on this card.

Can I get a prop bet anywhere for “complete mental breakdown”?

I wouldn’t mind them bumping up the MacDonald/Lambert fight.

Pfff

I want to see the Stun Gun decapitate Matt Brown.

by Luke Thomas on Sep 5, 2008 3:08 PM EDT up reply actions

I’d rather see Tavares/Pellegrino.

by idefinecagefighter on Sep 5, 2008 4:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Thats cold, is it because Matt Brown copied your facial hair?

I don't need to watch

Lambert underperform on yet another show…

It would be a quick fight. I think MacDonald will take him out fast. We could possibly see 7 or 8 fights on this card.

Well that just sucks. Hopefully they can get Yoshida on one of the upcoming cards.

Thiago Silva just pulled out of his fight with Machida too.

This is unreal. I was really looking forward to these two fights in particular.

Flip sides of a coin

Down side- I really, really, really wanted to see this fight. Yoshida got hosed big time.

Up side- Now Kurt Pellegrino vs Thiago Tavares can be moved to the televised card. Maybe even Jason Lambert vs Jason MacDonald too.

Sucks for Yoshida, but the UFC will probably give him a paycheck even if they can’t find him a replacement fight, and he’ll be back on the November card maybe.

Upgrade Stun Gun!

by Michaelthebox on Sep 5, 2008 3:16 PM EDT up reply actions

I find it hard to believe

that the UFC wouldn’t be giving Yoshida a dime for this time, seeing as he’s already traveled and such (I assume).

by LiuLang on Sep 5, 2008 3:19 PM EDT up reply actions

I understand they paid Jardine at least his show pay when one of his fights fell through, so I’m assuming thats common practice especially for the less tenured fighters who really need the paychecks.

by Michaelthebox on Sep 5, 2008 3:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Cutting all that weight for nothing. Hopefully the UFC throws a little something his way.

by steveoc24 on Sep 5, 2008 3:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Back when Karo wouldn’t train for fights he didn’t get injured. Perhaps he should go back to that training regiment.

I have the live feed on for the weigh-ins, which start at 4 EST. Rogan came on during the mic check and said to one of the producers or whoever that Karo is “all fucked up”.

Joe does tend to over exaggerate.

And someone overheard Goldberg say “He accidentily injured his back in an accidental back injury”.

I heard that too!

This sucks. I was really looking forward to another Parisyan loss.

I actually had Karo

But now I can’t write about it in my picks.

by Blackout612 on Sep 5, 2008 3:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Why did you wait so long? You should have had your picks done like yesterday.

Shucks!

Couldnt have happened to a nicer guy. He is a jerk, and a boring fighter to watch. I wanted him to fight to see him get some teeth kicked out.

Karo is a punk

I lost respect for him when he tried to fight a TUF contestant in a lockerroom.

by thetakeover on Sep 5, 2008 9:07 PM EDT reply actions

Ah yes, the Nate Diaz confrontation. That was funny.

by Richard Wade on Sep 5, 2008 9:46 PM EDT up reply actions

"On the streets" and such

was a fairly hilarious, if utterly humiliating rant by Karo.
