The best scenario for the UFC would be to put on old fights relative to an upcoming PPV. Essentially, big fight versions of Unleashed. A show to air on network TV the week before UFC 88 could include Liddell vs Wanderlei, Evans vs Salmon, Franklin vs Quarry, and Hamill vs Boetsch.
In addition, network TV would be a great place for Countdown shows. The Ultimate Fighter was a great marketing tool to bring fans in to the UFC and truly spread the word. Hyping the PPV product the right way on network TV would literally cement the UFC as a pop culture entity.
I would also add that after three or four months of fight highlight and countdown shows to pump a PPV to the masses, it would be time to put on a massive live card on network TV. EliteXC has presented sub par MMA with a heavy reliance on spectacle. The UFC could slowly lure in the masses with slickly packaged promotional shows before debuting a live card that truly shows both the spectacle and athleticism of mixed martial arts.
How about Liddell vs Wanderlei II on network TV sometime in 2009? Throw on another big drawing name like Brock Lesnar or Anderson Silva as well as fighters that guarantee excitement like Huerta, Guida, or Tyson Griffin and we'll have a Super Card that will be water cooler talk for days.
