Another Myspace Bulletin gem from War Machine:
Evan Tanner and the faggot ass UFC..
So the UFC decided to let me go because of my statements after the death of Evan Tanner. They tried to make it look like I was insensitive towards Evan and that that was the reason I was being cut.
In all honesty my bulletin regarding Evan was bashing the UFC and the way they treat fighters and not negative to Evan in any way. if anything I was sticking up for Evan and the way he was mistreated by the UFC just like the vast majority of it fighters.
Anyway, since my bulletins and all the bullshit being talked about on the underground several of Evan Tanner's close friends and family members have been in contact with me. 99 percent of them were not mad at all and pretty much let me know that they knew where I was going with the whole bulletin and for me not to worry about hurting any of them directly.
SO yeah one of his close friends just messaged me a few hours ago and let me know that the UFC sent NO ONE to speak at his funeral. He let me know how much this saddened the family and how very disappointed they were about it all.
This is an EX CHAMPION of theirs, NOT some scrub that fought for them once and thats it. Are you trying to tell me he doesn't deserve any of the UFC brass' presence at his funeral? Doesn't deserve a single kind word or statement of gratitude for the services that he provided their organization?
Fucking bullshit if you ask me. This also brings me back to the whole reason I was let go by them. It obviously wasn't because they thought I was offensive to the Tanners it was as I ALWAYS knew...it was because I spoke my mind about the organization and the way the treat their fighters.
Actions speak louder than words and they can say what they want about why they were not present but to me it sure looks like they didn't give two shits about the guy.
Fucking sad.

He better pray none of these smaller organizations go under or he’s going to be working 9-5.

While I understand wanting to get paid early as fighters “windows of opportunity” are short, but you have to be smarter when you are brand new & in the biggest MMA forum in the world. Just not a smart move and really bad timing.

What’s the point of this little rant?
The UFC cut him for saying something stupid. Who cares whether it was stupid because he was bashing Tanner or if it was stupid because he was bashing the UFC.
The UFC would probably cut him for doing either, so who cares?

F-bombing the funeral
I’d appreciate his sentiments about respecting Tanner more if they weren’t draped in F-bombs. And his continued insertion of himself into the Tanner situation only diminishes the man he’s trying to help (presumably Tanner, though I suspect its really himself).

I wasn’t aware it was standard practice for funerals to have speakers from the deceased’s employer.

Exactly
what I was thinking. I have worked for the same company for years and am not expecting the CEO to give my eulogy.

I thought he got cut because he turned down a fight with a “no name” guy and the UFC/Joe Silva did not like the fact that he was turning down fights…

First, no one knows why the UFC didn’t send a rep to the funeral. Tanner was an ex champ, though, so it wouldn’t have been completely outlandish, as WM said. However, for him to say the UFC hasn’t done anything is wrong. They dedicated the fight night to Tanner, yes?
Second, WM is simply playing the way overdue unfair-UFC-discourse to go out in something at least resembling class. The kid’s foolish. What did he honestly think was going to happen when he bashed his employer in public? Not to mention turning down fights against no names after being Mc Subbed in his last fight.

Actually
He just refused a match, that’s all the reason UFC needs to cut him.
The Tanner situation is extremely disappointing, though not surprising. UFC should send someone to speak at services, saying that as an “employer” they are exempt is bullshit, UFC is not fucking Home Depot. They have an obligation and a reputation at stake here, and they fell short.
In a way, I’m not surprised though. Tanner was his own guy, he wasn’t defined as a UFC fighter, he didn’t usually bother to train when he didn’t have a fight coming up, and he had other jobs – MANY other jobs – it’s actually quite surprising that he has such an impressive record without dedicating every waking minute to UFC like most fighters do. He had a life and was always more than just a fighter. Really, because of his independence and no BS attitude and refusal to be part of corporate bullshit, it doesn’t surprise me that UFC doesn’t know quite what to do. After all, this IS the only UFC guy to just say no to corporate sponsorship and all the perks and $‘s that come from it, instead choosing to ask his fans to support him. The poor UFC execs didn’t know wtf to think.
Imagine being in it not for the money, but for the love of the sport, and what it represents as an ideal. I guess he was the only one, because UFC has done very little so far to properly respect the man so far.
Really, this just brings to the forefront issues the UFC is going to have to address sooner or later. How much lower are UFC execs going to drag the sport down by over commercializing it and by making compromises in the name of the almighty dollar ?
You do not disrespect a UFC great like Tanner this way and then still be able to claim any kind of high road at all. Let me be clear, a LOT of people are very, very disappointed at the way UFC has handled Tanners passing, and will not be forgetting it anytime soon.
It’s a huge let down for fans that expected the UFC to step up and do the right thing.

I honestly don’t get what people wanted the UFC to do. Evan Tanner was a popular fighter among hardcore fans, but not even recognizable by casual fans. That they mentioned his passing at all was enough for me. When a guy dies, a simple in memory of picture on the screen for a few moments is pretty standard.

Some of your points are dead on, but you lost me with the comments about over-commericalizing it.
It is the growth of the sport (and the UFC) that has more fighters making six and seven figures per fight. There is no way that fighters can make a better living in MMA without the sport growing. Fighters don’t seem to have a problem with putting “condom depot” on their butts.
I liked Evan a lot, but his personal problems played as much a role in his lack of money or recent success as his independance did. He admited as much when he decided to return.
He was a unique fellow that often fell down, but always picked himself back up.
If Zuffa has not done anything for Tanner, or in memory of Tanner, shame on them. He was back with the company and deserves some recognition. Had this been eight months ago, I would not think it as bad, but he was a current employee and should have been given some credit.
Does that make them evil? No, it was/is a sign of poor judgement. They have done good things in the past and while I find this offensive, I am not walking away.
After Ryan Bennett passed away, Zuffa donated plenty of time, money and access to generate money for his family.
There was a huge auction for UFC 66, with the winners getting cageside seats, great access and plenty of amazing things.
After the auction was over, the runner-up said he would match the winning bid if he also could get the package.
Somebody called Dana and asked for another pair of tickets and backstage passes. Once they told him what it was for, he gave them everything they asked for and told them whatever else they wanted would be provided.
No public mention was ever made.
Some good things are done, some bad things are done. This certainly falls into the catagory of bad.
But that hardly makes WM’s continued diatribes acceptable. He is using this situation in a way that I can’t imagine Tanner condoning.

WM really needs to mind his own business.
His original post put his own issues onto Evan Tanner. Tanner was not a money guy and any financial issues he had, he would admit were his own.
To me, his repeated suggestions that Tanner killed himself was very offensive.
Zuffa should indeed have done something for Tanner’s passing. I thought word was that they were going to. I don’t know what happened there.
But WM is a classless moron that keeps shooting his mouth off. He is pissed off at Zuffa and this is his excuse to keep bitching.
He reminds me of Chris Brennan’s little internet war against the UFC. He played fast and loose with the facts in an attempt to garner support online.
It is well known that there are plenty of folks online that really dislike the UFC and will jump on the side of anyone that is doing battle with them.
WM is simply trying to garner as much publicity as pos, cashing in on the Tanner fiasco so as to get support among die hard fans.
He could have simply written an article about fighter pay, but that might not have gotten him as much attention.
Note to Midwest promoters: If I see him on a show in my area, I will be boycotting the show. Any show that wants him will not get my money.

Scrub?
Funny he mentions “some scrub”…because that is exactly what this fool is.
Goodbye “guy with a dumb fake name”, you’ll scarcely be heard from again.
