Melvin Manhoef has retired from MMA competition following his first round submission loss to eventual DREAM Middleweight Grand Prix champion Gegard Mousasi last week. The news comes from a Manhoef spokesman, who tells Fightline that "training seven days a week and three times a day has taken its toll on his family life." No word on whether the 32-year-old Dutch striker will continue competing in K-1, where he was last seen in April being KO'd by Remy Bonjasky.

I hope this isn't permanent...,
I just started watching him. It would be unfortunate if this is for good. He’s a good fighter and I think he should just take some time off and come back. Maybe losing to Mousasi the way he did messed him up in the head. I’m really starting to lean more towards Dream and Sengoku over UFC. He was one of the reasons. Especially that fight with Sakuraba (sp?) when he grabbed him by the foot, pulled Sakuraba towards him and unloaded a devastating punch. Classic.

He doesn’t seem right in the head anyways, Plus, i understand he did some time in prison for god knows what. He just seems a bit…shady?
