Who Benefits From WEC/UFC Division Merger?
As you all know by now the WEC has officially decided to stop promoting their LHW and MW divisions. I actually spoke on this a few weeks back, and I still agree with what I wrote back then for the most part. As of right now we still don’t know exactly which fighters will be kept/cut from the WEC roster at LHW/MW. As it stands right now there are only a handful of fighters that are worth keeping in my personal opinion.

my two cents:
I think the WEC has some high level fighters at lower weights and some lower level fighters at higher weights. Now, I’m not saying they don’t have some potential and if matched properly, could have SOME success in the UFC. Outside of Filho, I dont see many doing much in the UFC if thrown to the wolves. The lhws are green and not well rounded. Sonnen is good, but the UFC has a lot of guys that are dangerous to him. 185 is a murderer’s row of bjj guys and while I think he can hang, he doesn’t have a long term future there, imo.
I think WEC should stick to lower weights and possibly women, if it continues to grow for them. I also think they should take a page from Strikeforce and their own past, and continue to import Asian fighters. These dudes can fight and they need the exposure to an American audience.
Frankly, the only ones I see losing from this, are the TUF fallouts and lower level fighters, that probably should be fighting at a lower level anyways.
