In World Wrestling Entertainment, Brock Lesnar was billed as The Next Big Thing.

When Lesnar left WWE, he became exactly that.

All hail Brock Lesnar, the new UFC world heavyweight champion. Lesnar will hold that belt exactly as long as he wants to. Barring a mental meltdown of Mike Tyson-vs.-Buster Douglas proportions, Lesnar’s size, brute force, grappling skill and cardio regimen make him absolutely unbeatable, the ultimate Ultimate Fighter.

Lesnar proved that Saturday night in Las Vegas, winning the title with a two-round demolition of Randy Couture. How galling it was for UFC purists, who booed Lesnar mercilessly from the moment he walked toward the octagon.

The fake wrestler, after just four fights, is the king of reality. The fake wrestler strode purposefully into the hallowed octagon and pummeled MMA’s biggest legend senseless, then embraced his beautiful wrestling wife, Rena (the former Sable). Lesnar said all the right things about Couture after, but the catcalls still rained down.

Now all the women will come to see him, and all the men will want to be him. It was beautiful and, truth be told, it was almost too easy.

UFC boss Dana White was doubtless a little sad to see Couture whipped, but only a little. Lesnar winning was best for UFC’s business. Lesnar’s WWE past slightly diminishes his credibility, but all those shots to Couture’s head even that out.

Lesnar is a rarity, a guy who looks like a badass and is a badass.

UFC can line up good-guy challengers to battle the monster villain and my, how the money rolls in.

It will be interesting to see how WWE handles Lesnar’s rise in UFC, whether WWE TV replays clips of Lesnar "losing" by way of promoting the "winners."

If Lesnar chooses, his win Saturday guarantees a lucrative return to WWE when he’s done with UFC.

I picked Couture. But I realized the error of my ways when I saw how Lesnar dwarfed Couture during the pre-fight instructions.

Lesnar is four inches taller than Couture and outweighed him by 50 pounds. Add in Lesnar’s grappling background (he’s a former NCAA wrestling champion), his startling striking power and his conditioning (absolutely amazing for a man that size) and it’s easy to see Lesnar dominating UFC indefinitely. He’s still getting better, too.

Lesnar, 31, showed patience beyond his experience in beating Couture, 45.

When Couture tried to wear down Lesnar by grinding it out along the cage, Lesnar turned the tables on the MMA great and, when he saw his opening, took full advantage.

I never worked with Lesnar during my time in pro wrestling. We were with different companies and, anyway, I had already left World Championship Wrestling by the time Lesnar debuted with WWE in 2002.

But as someone who often gets taunted about how "fake" pro wrestling is (duh), I have a few questions: How fake did things seem Saturday night? How fake is Brock Lesnar?

Not fake at all.
