Rampage Jackson Sez: Michael Bisping Could Beat Anderson Silva Some Day
Fronted by Luke Thomas.
From an article from the Telegraph , Rampage Jackson talks Michael Bisping. He says:
"I've been working and training with Michael for a year now, and I have seen improvements consistently; he is already one of the best. He just can't see it yet. This guy doesn't know just how good he is. Or how good he can be yet. I think if Michael beats Chris Leben and he fights Dan Henderson next [as we are led to believe with Bisping and Henderson rumoured to be rival coaches of The Ultimate Fighter 9 series, with a face-off denouement] he has the chance to show he is one of the best. If Michael beats and defeats Henderson then he can take on Anderson Silva. Michael has all the qualities to be one the best. He's better than me at so many things."
"Michael is a great fighter. He works hard, trains hard, he's got the potential to be one of the best champions in the sport. He's also got really good trainers. In the MMA game, anything can happen in a fight. People see Silva as invincible, but Michael could beat Silva one day. There is always a first in this sport."
I think Bisping is very good on is feet, but I also think he will need to better ground game before he has any chance against Anderson, or any top level competition.

I don’t see anywhere in Bispings game where he is better than “The Spider”.

I’d like to see them fight. I’m curious to see how well he’d hold up against Silva.

that would be a great technique vs. power matchup.

Is Rampage not eating again?
They need to send Rampage some food when he says stuff like this. I guess I can chaulk it up to pumping up your boy, which is all to commen. Certainly a notable quote, but not a big deal. I think the most telling thing is the qualifier in there, “one day”. Not now, but maybe some day.

Um no. I think he can beat Henderson because frankly, Henderson may be one of the most overrated fighters today. I don’t see him even lasting 2 rounds with Anderson.

A new Hendo
If you watched Henderson’s performance at UFC 88, you’ll have seen a very tactical, precise and intelligent Henderson – sure, it was a decision win, but a unanimous one. Rousimar Palhares is a very dangerous, sneaky fighter and Hendo executed a near flawless strategy to nullify his opponent. I think Hendo’s losses to both Rampage and The Spider made him sit back, take stock and come out fresh. Should TUF 9 indeed be Hendo vs. Bisping, then Mike will have his hands full.

Beat Hendo?
Hendo is one of the toughest guys around & has KO power in his hands, just ask Wandy. If Bisping were to beat Hendo then he should definitely deserve a shot, but will probably just end up as a full body punching bag for Da Spider

Rampge is right...
And by that I mean Bisping seemingly has all the potential in the world, but he’s only begun to realize it since moving to 185. I think it’s too early for anyone to be saying whether he could/couldn’t beat Silva in a year or two, but the Leben fight and hopefully Hendo after that will show us a lot about what this guy’s really made of.

Bisping seems good at boxing and imposing his game plan on this opponents. So does Silva, who also has other skills (ground, clinch, etc). Bisping certainly has the potential, but would need to learn a whole lot of new techniques, and train crazy in them, to stand a chance.

I think that you could say that a lot of fighter have the “potential” to beat Silva, but actually stepping into that octagon with him and doing is a world of difference. There is nothing that Bisping does that Silva does not do exponentially better. Barring catching him with a big shot, there is no way he wins.

Agree for the most part
tho I think Bispings boxing may be close to, if not equal to, Silvas. But then, it isn’t a boxing match :)

Not necessarily disagreeing with you, but have you seen the video online of Silva in a professional boxing match? His boxing, when he needed to actually “box” was pretty phenomenal. His opponent may not have been a world-beater, but it was a pure boxing match with a boxer and Silva destroyed him and looked like a pro boxer doing it. All that talk of fighting RJJ was, at least, based on Silva’s actual boxing acument and not just some kind of a stunt.
That said, I’m a fan of Bisping. I just don’t think there’s any way he’s even close to be ready for Silva, boxing or otherwise. My .02.

You could be right. I don’t pretend to be a boxing know all (or know much). I just know that Bisping tends to out box his opponents, and Silva is a boxing guy. So I base it on those grounds but I will digress to those who know more about the pure sport of boxing than I do :)

Only way some of these guys start beating Spider is maybe in the next 5-6 years when he’s getting in that Chuck age range and starts losing a step. Until then, there is nobody at 185 that can hang. Nobody. I think he could even clear out the 205 division as well.

Marquardt ...
Will take him out. He is on a warpath! He destroyed Leites even if his aggresion cost him a couple points. Marquardt in 2009! [assuming Cote doesn’t get lucky that is]

Remind me
what happened the last time Nate the Great faced Silva? Part 2 will be a repeat

I actually agree in theory. Nate looked really good the last few fights. But then again, so did Franklin and Hendo..

Bisbing has skills…however, he needs to develop some punching power and better takedown defense…since he relatively likes to stand and trade in his fights.

Yeah
I actually think Bisping is very underrated in the MMA community, from what I have seen. I’m not sure why but people seem to keep looking past him. He definitely has the potential to do great things in the sport.

because he hasn’t really faced top flight competition outside of a few fights. He was dominated by a guy (Hamill) that in turn was dominated by Rich franklin.

I disagree that he was dominated by Hamill.
I know I’m in the minority here, but I thought Bisping out fought him. Hamill is like Frankenstein, we saw that in the Franklin fight, that no matter how hurt he is he just keep coming forward which makes it appear that he isn’t hurt at all. Because of that, I believe, many people thought that Hamill should have won. I think it was certainly a close fight, but in no way do I think Bisping got dominated.

and on similar note
Bisping is 17-1 and his only loss is a split decisions to Rashad Evans, who just KTFO Liddel. I don’t think that’s a bad record.

I did not mean to say that Bisping was dominated by Hamill, but he definitely got more of a run for his money than he anticipated.

I agree Bisping is underrated, but I do not think that Silva is overrated. Anywhere this fight takes place Silva would have a decided advantage.

agree, but in 2 years, who knows (assuming Bisping keeps improving).

agree
but assuming Silva is still around his skills are not likely to diminish much as he seems to keep in good shape & always looks sharp
by dnevil001 on Sep 26, 2008 12:23 PM EDT 0 recs
As technical as the Spider has been the past years, the only true chance anyone has to beat him is catching him with that perfect shot or him coming in without that competitive fire he typically has. It does not seem that if he is on top of his game anyone can truly outstrike him other than a lucky punch.
by dnevil001 on Sep 26, 2008 12:32 PM EDT 0 recs
Silva’s striking is on a k-1 or better level, his head movement is also top notch. On the chance he does get caught who can be sure that you are going to put him away?

I still think that you put Silva in with the top kick boxers in the world he’ll not only hold his own but will do very well.
This is just a personal opinion but a valid one I think.

My point exactly,
even though there are those “sweet spots” in which people go to sleep when they get hit squarely, it would be crazy to get involved in a striking battle with him. Hendo had the best game plan, but when it hits the ground he still has his black belt in bjj to fall back on.
