Melvin Guillard Arrested
Sherdog has the unfortunate news:
UFC lightweight contender Melvin Guillard was arrested Aug. 13 in Houston for violating probation on a 2007 drug charge, a Harris County deputy told Sherdog.com.
The 25-year-old New Orleans native is in custody at the Harris County jail in Houston, the deputy said last Thursday, and will be released to a drug treatment facility as soon as space becomes available per the terms of his recently amended probation.
This bums me out. The dude has no end of potential but just won't get off the knucklehead tip. This comes only 18 months after he tested positive for cocaine after his loss to Joe Stevenson at UFN 9.
By the way, I had to delete a fan post that reposted the entire Sherdog article. Don't do that: it's called copyright infringement and won't be tolerated.
If you see an article on Sherdog that no one at BE has posted about yet, by all means please write a fan post BUT don't just cut and paste the whole article. Cut and paste two or three key paragraphs and add a paragraph or two of your own commentary. Then you're blogging.
Thanks.

Not a fan of his, but I hope he gets it together.
As for the arrest, it could have been for anything, either minor or major. If you are on probation, even the slightest infraction can violate you, depending on your probation officer.
Seeing how he was sent to treatment, I would assume it was drug/alcohol related, but who knows.

Very True
When on probation, you can get arrested for the pettiest things. Driving with expired tags, missing a court ordered class or even missing a court payment. It would be different if he was caught slanging drugs or any other criminal behavior.
… such a shame they actually make people on probation, you know, obey the law and court orders and shit.
//insert eye-rolling//
Drug addiction is a serious matter, Guillard is talented and has more potential than he probably realizes. Let’s hope this drug treatment program puts him back on track.

Shame..
Kid is gonna have to go away for a while and get it together to get another opportunity on a big show. I have to believe his UFC days are done. Dana can’t let a kid keep getting in trouble for narcotics and get back onto UFC’s shows. I’m afraid he could be incapable of clawing all the way back. First time may have been a get out of jail free card because of the death of his father. Hopefully Dana at least provides him with some resources for rehabilitation.
Hopefully it wasn’t a serious violation, but if he’s being released into a treatment facility, it can’t be good. Unfortunately his liabilities might be eclipsing his KOs – damn shame too. While I don’t like him overall, his fists were a thing of beauty.
