My Picks For Ultimate Fight Night: "Diaz vs. Neer"
The UFC machine just keeps moving right along at a brisk pace it seems. Right off the heels of UFC 88 we have the next UFC event which is Ultimate Fight Night: “Diaz vs. Neer” which will also serve as the lead in show for the premiere of The Ultimate Fighter Season 8. Below is my breakdown of the televised portion of the card:
Main Card:
Nate Diaz Vs. Josh Neer- Josh Neer is a veteran of the sport who has quietly won three fights in a row, with his last win coming against Din Thomas back in April. Diaz is coming off a come from behind submission win against Kurt Pellegrino also in April. Diaz has had a tendency to rely solely on his BJJ to win his fights thus far in the UFC. He has shown very little boxing or wrestling skills and he’ll need all of these tools at then some against a veteran like Neer. In fact, if Diaz continues to rely solely on catching opponents in submissions from his back…he’s going to get smashed sooner or later. It just might be sooner against someone as well rounded as Neer. Neer via TKO

Nice job. I pretty much agree, but I’m tired of getting burned by Diaz, so I’m picking him, but only for that reason.
I think this will be a huge indication of where Danzig will fit in the UFC. Beat Guida and you are a legit contender. Mac has been around a while and was being called for by fans to be in the UFC well before his TUF appearance, so he isn’t the typical TUFer. I love Guida, but he exposes himself to often, so I will go with you on this one.

Realness, I have a feeling that Nate has improved his striking – that is why I feel this fight will be really close. I do see Nate going to his jits if he is not winning the striking game. I don’t know which to call b/c I like both guys but feel this will be a close match – Nate has been asking for stiffer competition – we’ll see how he does.
I like Danzig but I don’t see him getting the RNC on Guida. Guida has learned from his last fight with Huerta – I see Guida coming out and making a big statement. Guida does not want to be the gatekeeper anymore.

Nate may have improved his striking…but he has yet to use it…that’s why I’m picking against him…he has relied on his BJJ a little too much…and it will bite him in the ass at some point…it almost did against Pellegrino.
Well…the Guida/Danzig fight will goto the ground at some point…so it remains to be seen.
Thanks BJJDenver

Diaz over Neer by submission.
Diaz’s striking might not be as sharp but he can weather an assault of strikes and remain poised enough to get the submission.

I thinbk Danzig is going to take Guida.
I also think Houston will lose quickly if it goes to the ground, but IMO he’s going to end it standing

If Houston wins, let’s see him get a rematch with Irvin.

Irvin will be under suspension more than likely…I need to see Houston vs. anybody that will stand with him.

Hell Nah
Horn ain’t gonna stand with him…whoever I’d wouldn’t mind seeing him against Antonio Mendes(dude that lost to Thiago Silva at UFC 84).

Right, I was just throwing Horn out there for a nibble. What about Glover Texiera?

whew…glad I wasn’t betting on these picks….I was impressed with Diaz..he finally showed the other facets of his game…good job.
I was really disappointed in Guida…I mean he didn’t do hardly any damage to Danzig…
