War Machine Cut From UFC
MMA Junkie reports that War Machine has been cut by the UFC:
War Machine (5-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC), "The Ultimate Fighter 6" cast member previously known as Jon Koppenhaver before he legally changed his name, has been dropped by the UFC in the wake up a controversial web posting the fighter made regarding the death of former UFC champion Evan Tanner.
War Machine said he recently turned down a fight -- one with an opponent who had little name recognition -- and that the decision may have also played a part in the UFC's decision to drop him from the roster.
Here is the offending quote:
"What else is an underpaid fighter supposed to do at the end of his career?" War Machine wrote in the posting. "Cash in his 401K? Collect social security? Start to work some [expletive] job for 10 bucks an hour? (This) [expletive] ain't boxing, and if you're not Chuck [Liddell] or Tito Ortiz, you don't get paid dick."
For reasons I simply can't imagine, the comment pissed Joe Silva off.

Are you kidding?
The guy is BARELY a name. Yet he acts like he’s Chuck. The jacka$$ should’ve been happy to be offered ANY fights. Humble is not a word in his vocabulary.
You can’t understand? He was implying that Tanner did it INTENTIONALLY. Regardless of what you think, have some respect. Besides, have you ever seen any of WM’s other bulletins? The guy totally let TUF go to he his head. He thought he was bigger and tougher than he really is. He doesn’t know when to shut up.
Don't give up, just pull a Nick Serra!

… I’m pretty sure Rome understood exactly why it pissed Silva off — that was a sarcastic comment about not understanding. For what it’s worth

At least he still has a stupid name.

Very true, he and Chad Ocho Cinco (formerly Johnson) have both crushed their respective competition and need to face off against one another to finally determine who has the stupidest name in sports.

Can KenFlo be the special guest referee?
by mythbuster on Sep 12, 2008 3:38 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
At least that isn’t Kenny’s real name.

Exactly. He has to legally change his name to KenFlo (i.e. like the former Johnson and the former Koppenhaver) to win the referee spot outright.

You know
Normally I try to really put the stamp on fighter bashing and some of the comments here are borderline, but if there were ever a character deserved of this kind of treatment, Koppenhaver is it. And I’m never going to call him War Machine. Ever.

I am so happy he changed his name to War Machine, so I can keep calling him it and not feel like I’m intentionally degrading him.

I liked the guy. He was an interesting character. But I don’t feel sorry for him. I guess some people never learn to keep their mouth shut when talking about fighter pay in the UFC. I don’t get it. It’s a one-way ticket out of the UFC.

Yep. I liked him on the show…. his troubled life and stuff made me root for him. He didn’t seem like he was full of himself on the show …but those comments obviously indicate he’s let those 15 minutes of fame go to his head.

I’m not sure if it’s the 15 minutes of fame going to his head or if it’s just ignorance. These fighters gotta know the UFC hears about eveything they say or write.

From Article:
“I’m the kind of guy who’s real independent, and I don’t take [expletive] from anyone,” he said. “I don’t care if it’s Joe Silva or Dana White. I don’t care who it is. I’m not going to bow down to anyone. … I’m not going to be bullied by anyone.”

There goes his chances of ever coming back to the UFC.
Do they realize that all these smaller organizations are going under and pretty soon it will only be the UFC? People complain about money in the UFC but I don’t see any other organizations paying close to what the UFC pays.

This is really disappointing because I wanted to play him in the video game.
Hopefully he is still in.

It’s about time. This guy just doesn’t know when to keep his mouth shut! Ever read his myspace bulletins? What an idiot!

Good riddens.
Watching JRoc elbow the crap outta him was one of my favorite highlights in recent memory.
Now he can go to TNA, fight Rhyno, and get broken in half. What an arrogant jerk.

Koppenhaver had agreed to do an interview with me a few years ago, but when I was in So Cal, he didn’t get back to me. Given all the political stuff I ask, I was kind of excited to hear his unihibited noise. He was the same back then before he went on TUF. He definitely has some issues.
