Disgruntled Fans/Media Are Creating A Monster In Rashad Evans
Steve Cofield of Yahoo Sports found a good interview clip with Rashad Evans on Tagg Radio…you can listen to it here:
Evans addressed some real issues that have presented themselves since he took out Chuck Liddell at UFC 88. Issues such as:
- Fans/Media calling him a show boater
- Bias of Joe Rogan
- Double Standards between him and other fighters celebrating a victory
Rashad made some very valid points in the interview and you can sense the aggravation in his voice as he speaks. Evans has been the proverbial underdog since showing up on the scene of The Ultimate Fighter 2. In fact he was the underdog in basically every fight on the show, and he come out on top in the end, despite giving up a lot of size and experience against some of his opponents. Evans seems like a fighter that thrives on people doubting him or telling him that he can’t do something.

TRUE VERY TRUE
I CANT UNDERSTAND HOW HE STILL ISNT GETTING ANY RESPECT? IS WHAT HE DID AFTER THE FIGHT ANY DIFFERENT OR WORSE THAN CHUCK RUNNING AROUND THE RING LIKE A FOOL WITH HIS ARMS SPREAD? ALSO, I THINK WITH HIS CONFIDENCE SO HIGH HE WOULD LOVE ANOTHER SHOT AT TITO, TO GET HIS ONE MINOR BLEMISH OFF HIS RECORD

Who is disrespecting him?
Everything I’ve read is that he keep overcoming the underdog status and kicking ass, and giving him tons of credit. What respect is he craving then? Is he expecting people to send him their underwear, or is this a PR thing by his camp to make him the victim, or eternal underdog so he can “keep overcoming the odds”?
And if he doesn’t want people to call him a showboater, he probably shouldn’t showboat.

When does he showboat during a fight? I mean he moves a lot…yes…but please make a .gif of he showboating during the Liddell fight or something. Does moving a lot=showboating?

After the fight, while Liddel was still down and he did his Sanford impression. I’ve said before, and say now, it isn’t that big a deal. It lacks a bit in sportsmanship to do stuff like that when the opponent is Almost Dead on the canvas but it’s hardly the worse thing I’ve seen.
However, you can’t make a second first impression and most of us remember his showboating from TUF, so even a small amount now gets taken as more than it probably is. That said, it’s still not a “omg everyone hates Rashad!” thing… everything I have seen is giving the guy his due. But if he doesn’t like being considered a showboater, again I say — don’t do it.
(yes, I intentionally ignore the “during a fight” bit that you added to change the argument).

I didn’t see anything wrong with his Fred Sanford dance, it’s not like he did it right over Chuck’s body.

I couldn’t decide if this was supposed to be a Sanford and Son impression or if his nipple just started to really hurt from all that twisting he did before the fight …

I would have got your sarcasm if he had grabbed his nipples again – it was an obvious impression of Fred Sanford

That’s no worse than Liddell cranking up his chainsaw and running around the cage like a maniac….lol…considering the shit Rashad took from fans coming into the fight…you’d think he would have celebrated more…

Awesome!
You found something from three years ago to justify something that someone else did less than a month ago, and actually doesn’t because “yay I won!” vs. “oh look at me, look at me, look at me, LOOK AT ME!!” is not similar at all!

I wonder
were the same people who thought Lesnar’s showboating was uncalled for the same ones who disliked Evan’s showboating? I personally dislike showboating, but I thought Lesnar’s was worse.

I’ve seen the posts criticizing Rashad, so I understand your point, but I feel like for the most part Rashad has been lauded for his achievement. Evans and Brock Lesnar for whatever reason seem to incite indignation on the forums whenever they celebrate do anything that could be construed as disrespectful. A lot of it has to do with the fact that it was Chuck. Most casual fans love Chuck, so anybody who beats him, fights him, etc is going to get booed and criticized in the arena.
As to the Joe Rogan bias, it’s pretty obvious that Rogan and Goldberg love Chuck. They were practically openly rooting for him when he fought Wanderlei Silva in December. I’ve always felt Rogan can be very unprofessional at times.

Rogan also had no business saying how he felt Matt Brown won the fight and the fans were already displaying their hatred for Kim – did he want to start a riot or something?

right. Besides Matt Brown did NOT win that fight. I don’t understand how anyone can score the fight any other way.
Back to Rashad, COME ON! He knocked out the biggest name in MMA. He got a title shot. He just had possibly the greatest moment of his MMA career… can’t he celebrate? Why does everybody need to be gracious, classy and humble at all times? This is MMA. This is NOT the fuckin Wimbledon. This is a testosterone driven sport. EXPECT TESTOSTERONE DRIVEN REACTIONS!

Rogan Josh (Joe)
I agree AndyR and lovingmma225, friends and I were commenting after UFC 88 about Rogan Josh’s erratic behaviour!
He is not paid to sit there and give his opinion on who he thinks won the fight, that’s what the judges are there for (Although sometimes they get it a bit twisted!). Sure, he could say it’s close or someone may have shaded it etc etc .. but not flat out start shouting “THATS A DISGRACEFUL DECISION” etc …
He is lucky that White is pretty “Non corporate”, as some of the things he says (and sometimes FORGETS to say) would not cut it in another sports company.
Guys, if ever you want to see unprofessional Rogan Josh at his best, download or buy UFC 13 “Ultimate Force”. It is before he is co-commentator to Goldberg, and he is just a backstage interviewer. He looks TOTALLY P*ssed off and unhappy to be there. It really is classic!!
