Cris Cyborg's Trainer Reveals Next Fight, Opponent

Cyborgsantos_medium
Rafael Cordeiro
, one of the top dogs at Chute Boxe Academy in Curitiba and trainer of EliteXC competitor Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos, recently spoke with Tatame and let slip what's next for everyone's new favorite female fighter.

She'll be at EliteXC’s October 4th show, again live by CBS, at Florida, against a Japanese fighter, Yoki Takarashi [sic]. She’s a very tough fighter and it’ll be a great fight. We signed the contract yesterday and Cris will fight her.
...
Gary Shaw, EliteXC’s VP, said that [Cyborg's] the most brutal athlete he had ever seen and that Gina is a star of the event, but now Cris is a star too. We’re very happy, we saw that he was praising both of them, and said that they can face each other.

The name Cordeiro meant to say was Yoko Takahashi, a 12-year veteran of Japanese promotions such as G-Shooto and the recently defunct Smackgirl who just last week fought to a draw against Mika Hayashi on the undercard of DEEP's Megaton GP Finals. Takahashi was to have made her promotional debut for EliteXC at their April 5th ShoXC event, but no opponent was ever named and the bout fell by the wayside.

Speaking of Brazilians taking on Japanese fighters, Tatame also reports that BJJ phenom Michel Langhi is close to finalizing a deal with DEEP and could make his MMA debut in December.

Isn’t Gina supposed to be fighting Kelly Kobold on the October 4 ticket? That would be a pretty bold move by EliteXC to put two female fights on the card.

I assume...

that they’re going to use it as a swing bout. If there is time they’ll show it. Also I assume they want to continue to build up interest in Cyborg vs. Gina

Oh, I’m sure you’re right that they won’t plan on showing this fight unless they have extra time. But to even put two female fights on the same card seems pretty bold of them, to me.

I’m a big Gina fan (obviously), and I think she’s much more technical than what I saw of Cyborg in the Baszler fight. But Cyborg is straight up scary.
