Spencer "The King" Fisher vs. Melvin "The Young Assassin" Guillard added to UFC 90 in Chicago on Oct. 25.

Fisher’s trainer, Pat Miletich, is none too happy about the match-up:

"Spencer has no reason to fight that guy," Miletich said. "I don’t think Melvin’s earned the right to fight him yet. I think Spencer should be fighting somebody where he’s got something to gain."

i know Melvin has suffered some losses and is not in title contention but he is a test for any fighter. if fisher gets it in his head that he is too good for this fight i think he will get stunned. melvin is dangerous.

Huh...

another interesting fight added to the Chicago debut. I can tell you that the Chicago show has a lot of buzz in the area (I’m in the Chicago burbs) right now. I’ve had a lot of people hounding me for info…even people who aren’t MMA fans.

Huh. I figured they would do Maynard v. Fisher for the reason Pat mentioned. Well, at least they got Fisher on the show. He always puts on a show unless he’s fighting from his back.

I like this matchup. The high fireworks potential will appeal to everyone.

This could be a war

Both of these guys are explosive strikers. Im a big fan of both of them; Melvin more so, because he’s a fellow New Orleanean. However, the matchup really does not make sense, I agree with Milletech. A win here can only boost Melvin’s status. If Fisher wins, he stays in a holding pattern. Big opportunity for Guillard; but it seems that when the stakes are high, the pressure gets to him. Hope he has his head on straight for this one.

I agree, I don’t think Melvin has earned the right to fight Fisher….but then again…he lost to Stevenson(former #1 contender) and Fisher lost to Franca(former #1 contender) so it’s not THAT far off….I hope Guillard pulls this on off for once in his lifetime.

Miletich will have to learn to deal with it. Whether it makes sense or not, I like this fight.
