Icon and RITC Results: Phil Baroni Wins, Drew Fickett Loses

R1-Ron Verdadero faints a jab. Phil Baroni comes out with a leg kick. Verdadero with a 1-2 counter backs up Phil. Baroni answers with an uppercut and right hook that drops Verdadero. Shimada stops it as Verdadero QUICKLY gets back up. HORRIBLE STOPPAGE. Verdadero wasn’t even hurt. Oh man.

Winner — Phil Baroni (12-10) at :51 of round 1 by TKO (strikes).

Richard Villa upset Drew Fickett with a second-round TKO. Villa followed a game plan that started earlier that day at the weigh-ins.

Fickett came in over weight and had to run off two pounds, which may have taken its toll on him. Villa and his camp figured they would take full advantage of that by letting Fickett come out strong and then tire.

Yuji Shimada saved Ron Verdadero . With a punch Phil broke Verdadero’s orbit. THAT’s WHY he went down.
Sure I would have liked the fight to go on for a few minutes. But Yuji was there, and saw the damage Rod was taking and that Phil was dishing out.

Nice to see Bao get some love on BE. I think of B.E. as the class of the MMA blogs & (in my opinion at least) Bao has not gotten the ink he deserves as a powerful, exciting fighter. Very technical with a great chin & tons of heart. He’s on a 9 win streak, has beaten some very tough opposition & always puts on a good show. He beat “The Bantamweight Chuck Liddel” in his hometown. He deserves a shot at the EXC 145lb title and could give everyone in the WEC fits too. War Bao Quach!!
