Report: Jerome Le Banner vs. Tim Sylvia Possible for Affliction 3
Fronted by Luke Thomas.
Chris Howie of MMANews.com has it:
Although the second Affliction show is still over a month away, future plans include a third show that will most likely take place in January of February 2009. One fight that Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio is looking at is one that some fans have been talking about for quite some time.
"In terms of fighters we are looking at Jerome LeBanner, he is interested in doing MMA and apparently him and Tim Sylvia have some history between them so that is something that we are looking at right now."
My memory of it is kind of hazy, but as far as the background to this fight goes, the short version is that Le Banner called out Sylvia when he was champion, and again after the first Arlovski fight, with Tim brushing him off both times. To say JLB is a little over the hill would be an understatement, but he is no stranger to fighting larger opponents and I think Sylvia would be foolish to try and trade blows with him.

Interesting...
JLB does have a more diverse striking arsenal, but what else can Big Tim do? His ground game consists of getting the ref to stand them back up. The former has still been doing well in K-1 against scarier guys than Tim (i.e. ones who aren’t mentally weak). Tim may be looking at his first TKO loss…

Here it is....
IS Jerome LeBanner past his prime? Yes. Is he still a devestating striker? Damn straight. This fight is tailor made for LeBanner. I give him TKO victory rd 2. Tim should have stayed in the UFC. He is going to start getting exposed against the top tier guys. The only way to beat LeBanner soundly is to expose his lack of ground game. And since no one is going to confuse Timmy for a world-class grappler, then he is going to stand with Jerome. While Timmy’s stand up is pretty damn good and he has great hands, Jerome is still one of the most devestating strikers in the sport. I can’t see Timmy hanging with LeBanner for more than a round or two. Just my two cents.

JLB’s been mounted by an arm wrestler before. It doesn’t take a world-class grappler to expose JLB’s lack of ground game.g

I guess its a alright fight better then nothing but I am not busting a nut hearing about it or wanting to see it. I can see this fight going the way of the Tim Vera fight ? Tim just leaning on him and using his height and jab to win a 3 round real boring decision.

.
Not really.
Brandon Vera was a soft 220 pounds for that fight. Jerome is ripped at 240 or so. Plus it’s in a ring, not a cage.
Also, who has Tim been able to keep away with his jab? Jeff Monson, Andrei Arlovski and Nogueira? lol. LeBanner has been dealing with guys like Schilt, Bonjasky, Aerts and Hoost for the last 15 years. He’ll have zero problems getting past Tim’s jab.

This in not k-1
Yeah its not K-1 eather nplus look at the Schilt fight with Le Banner its was a boring fight that LeBanner could not get on the inside and Schilt just pickjed away with his Jabs and leg kicks the same exact thing Tim will do Tim has had plenty of boring fights in a Ring the fight with Ben Rothwell comes to mind. Also lets be honest LeBanner has not looked to good in his last few fights he is not nearly the striker he ounce was, This fight was all the ground work for one boring ass fight with bolh guys just leaning on one another. Or It could be a barn burner if Tim comes to throw hands and just not play it safe ?

The king without a crown eh. Anybody who suggests that Vera and LeBanner are equals when it comes to striking should watch some K-1 tourny’s. JLB’s got an overhand left that has dropped the biggest and best in the world. Not all that impressive is it? Except he’s right handed. He trained to fight Southy but he’s a righty. When they say knockout power in both hands, this is who they are talkin’ about.

its not 1998
please what Jerome Le Banner are you talking about the one from the mid 90’s and early 00’s sure that LeBanner was a devastating striker but not the one who has went to a boring decision in the last 5 out of his 7 k-1 fights and loosing 4 of them. Like I said above he is not nearly the same fighter he ounce was he also gasses pretty dam quick the last few years.
