Snapshot of the Day: Rampage's New Home

Rampage_wolfslair_medium

The legally embroiled Quinton "Rampage" Jackson formally confirmed his split from trainer/manager Juanito Ibarra today, and announced that he will now train with and be managed exclusively by Liverpool, England's Wolfslair Academy. UK site Fighters Only broke the news.

According to multiple reports, it's now all but confirmed that Jackson will face Mauricio "Shogun" Rua at UFC 91 in Portland, OR, on November 15th.

This move makes no sense. I know Rampage and Bisping have matching tattoos, but officially joining a camp in England seems like a strange move.

Agree completely. Nevermind a conviction – what happens when he gets probation and they don’t want him traveling internationally?

Also: what do their matching tattoos say??

I’ve heard they each have half of a heart with Bisping’s saying “Ivory” and Rampage’s saying “Ebony.” Then some skulls thrown in there for good measure.

Ah...
“He will be training when he can in England and the Wolfslair will be running his camps up in Big Bear when he is preparing for his fights,” said McGann.

Yea I just read that. (Note to self – read the linked article before commenting.)

probation + leaving country = ???

by lunedi18 on Aug 27, 2008 9:49 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

There are many factors. the country of origin, the country being entered, the crime, the probation supervisor, etc.

Awhile back i went to San Diego (that’s Spanish for whale’s vagina) with a friend who was caught carrying steroids over the border. he checked in with the federal probation office in SD and was given a day pass to Mexico. Not sure about England, they have some pretty stringent laws, so…

Thats a great point that could hurt Rampage hear I forgot all about that. The U.K will not let anyone into there country from a outside country who has been convicted of a felony. The key word being convicted !!!!!

Hmm, not to be disrespectful or anything but isn’t Wolfslair not that good of a camp?

by Gong on Aug 27, 2008 11:07 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

For what it’s worth, the only fighters I’ve ever heard of out Wolfslair are Bisping, Paul Kelly and Mario Neto (who hasn’t fought in years).

Like Lucas said though, Rampage and Bisping are tight bros, and I’d guess the UFC had some input into where he landed…

Not to overlook they will be managing him exclusively too! Warning bells are already sounding.

Yeaah. Ah well, I suppose we’ll see how everything turns out eventually.

Juanito is way over ranked as a mma coach anyway. Yet I can’t figure why Page would go to England for these things.

Agreed and agreed.

He certainly helped Rampage sharpen his boxing a lot, though.

This is a drastic change...

Rampage never ceases to amaze me. He has definitely lost his mind. Oh well maybe this is for the best. Dude’s all over the place right now.

Reading this story, it seems to me he’ll keep training in big bear for the training camps, and go to England to train inbetween.

Oh, and I must steal a reply from another message board:

At least he already prefers driving on the left side of the road.

But it was worthy of a groan.

I enjoyed it.

Come on PAGE !!!!

This makes no sence what so ever in my eyes. Come on Page that are you thinking man you need to go to a top camp like AKA,Greg Jacksons, ATT,etc. I jreally ust don’t get Rampages decision making at times when it comes to his MMA carrer,Who knows maybe this will be the best thing in the world for himand I will eat my words but I really have my douts and think its just a stupid ass spur of the moment impulsive decision that will come back to hurt him ????

Was he nostalgic for his Team Oyama days?

Did he need to find another bullshit camp with no quality sparring partners?

This is ridiculous. Xtreme Couture might be out, as Forrest and Wanderlai are there, but there are plenty of good camps left around. Tito and Barnett are both ostensibly prepping for fights; get back with the old Team Punishment! Go to Jackson’s!

Ridiculous.

by The Ghost of Spike Owen on Aug 28, 2008 12:13 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He could train with Barnett.
