Quinton "Rampage" Jackson Faces Felony Charges

Rampage_medium

The AP has the basics:

Prosecutors are charging former mixed martial arts light heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson with felony evasion, reckless driving and driving against traffic after a series of collisions last month.

The Orange County district attorney said Monday that Jackson also faces misdemeanor hit and run and reckless driving charges.

MMA Weekly has more details:

The 30-year-old Jackson has been charged with one felony count of evading while driving recklessly, one felony count of evading a peace officer and driving against traffic, three misdemeanor counts of hit and run with property damage, and one misdemeanor count of reckless driving.

His arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 28. Deputy District Attorney Keith Bogardus will request a $25,000 bail for the fighter.

Notably absent were charges related to Holli Griggs, a passenger in one of the cars that Jackson sideswiped. Griggs was 16 weeks pregnant with a boy when she miscarried two weeks after the incident. Orange County DA spokeswoman Farrah Emami told MMAWeekly.com that a subsequent investigation of the miscarriage did not implicate Jackson.

"We reviewed all the medical records and spoke with the victim’s physician, and the evidence showed that the loss of the fetus was not related to or a result of the crash caused by the defendant," Emami said.

I'm particularly relieved to see that there's apparently nothing to the charge that Rampage caused a woman to miscarry. That aspect of the story always smelled a little funny to me.

However...

we can finally put to rest the “this woman probably wasn’t ever pregnant to begin with” nonsense that everyone was resorting to.

True

Except no one said that. At least not on this site.

He won't ever serve time

He’ll pay the fines and be done with it. That’s what stardom brings.

Same goes for most of us. As long as we have done nothing serious in the past and the current charges aren’t huge, they usually get pleaded down or let off relatively easy. If anything, his celebrity would work against him, imo.

Glad you brought this up. One of the most persistent popular culture myths is stars get easy treatment in court. The opposite is true, as sometimes judges want to make examples of them for national fame. It’s not a story on the news when the average dude gets no jail time for something like this, but it happens all the time.

Civil suits will be forthcoming more than likely though.

Well, I’m happy for Quinton that he can have that off his conscience, and this is what I always thought would be brought against him. I do not expect him to go to jail.

I think this also spells good news for him civilly. The DA coming out and saying it was not caused by Jackson will severely decrease the amount she can get in a settlement.

Yeah...

…i figured that she may be able to get damage to her vehicle but likely nothing for the miscarriage at this point.

No bad News But Good !!!

I think actually this is not that bad at All for Page ? His lawyer will plea down some of the overall chgarges to lessor counts that always happens, then Rampages layer will take a over all plea real that the DA agrees to which where Rampage will most likely end up with a Few years probation, some community service and paying a fine and thats about it. I am 99.9% sure he will not see one day inside a jail cell. As for the civil suit that might be upcoming I don’t thinik there is one know like the Da says all the evidence points towards the car accindent did not cause it at all. That was the best news of all for Page !!!

The news is mostly good. Nothing in conjunction with the miscarriage, and a statement that will basically destroy her chance to ruin him financially.

The fact that it is two felonies instead of one is a bit surprising. I still think he will avoid prison via plea.

One of those felonies will likely be plead down, I would imagine.

I hope Rampage can start to put this behind him. He shouldn’t serve any jail time. I’m guessing some big fines and possibly some community servicewill be handed down.

I think he’ll do well with character witnesses and the like. To my knowledge he doesn’t have much of a checkered past. I don’t think many people will be angry to see him get community service, probation and some heavy fines.

I see each car he hit did end up being a separate charge. I admit I initially thought that those might be felony charges but after being explained California law I see how those are misdemeanors. But there is a charge for each separate car hit which I believe some people didn’t seem to think that would be the case.

I do think considering his state of mind at the time of the accident there should be some kind of psychiatric care tied in if he only gets probation though. Even if it’s only an evaluation every six months or something like that while he is on probation.
