Matt Lindland vs. Trevor Prangley Set for Affliction 2
With Vitor Belfort coming up lame and excusing himself from a scheduled October 11th scrap with Matt Lindland, "sources close to the bout" have confirmed to MMAJunkie that the wrestler/fighter/aspiring politician from Oregon will now face South Africa's Trevor Prangley at Affliction's "Day of Reckoning" show. Belfort had previously mentioned that he would fight Lindland for "a title" - presumably the WAMMA middleweight belt - but the sources don't mention if a championship will be up for grabs. The 36-year old UFC and bodogFight veteran Prangley last competed in Strikeforce's "Four Men Enter, One Man Survives" one-night tournament in November of 2007, where he won an opening round decision against Falaniko Vitale but was later upset by Jorge Santiago.
The card for "Day of Reckoning" is currently looking something like this:
Andrei Arlovski vs. Josh Barnett
Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
Matt Lindland vs. Trevor Prangley
Chris Horodecki vs. Dan Lauzon
Jason High vs. Mike Pyle

Regarding Lindland vs. Belfort "for a title"
I contacted the guys at WAMMA that I interviewed a few months back by e-mail and left voice mails for them to get confirmation when that talk was going around to see if they were really going to sanction that matchup as an undisputed title fight and how they could do so considering that Belfort isn’t near anyone’s top 10.
They never got back to me….

Also...
…while it isn’t a “bad card” or anything. That is a significant step down from the first show in terms of top to bottom “wow factor.”

It’s a good card again by them and I’ll get it. Yet I wonder if it’s gonna be enough to float them. They lost a boatload last time and this, I’m sorry to say, is a losing money card to mainstream America. I hate to say it but they don’t have much mainstream draw here. Andrei being the biggest in my mind. I’m not downing the other fighters skills, just drawing power. I hate Tim and he was WAY overpaid but he was a name. Fedor is the name. Just seems like Affliction has great intentions but not enough money to burn to get it off the ground and all their fighters on a card. Couple injurys and they’re hurt bad again. They should set Tito up with a low upfront pay and good points on the ppv and let his talk be backed by numbers or no big pay day. He of all people understands it’s a business and should jump on it. If he really believed in his sales numbers.

Its a great card from top to bottom, without any egregious mismatches, and a guy in Arlovski who has been on a couple major PPVs and has a defined persona to sell. The buzz is that Ortiz may in fact sign on in time for this show.

Yeah...
but outside of Arlovski who on that show can “sell a card” to the general public? Arlovski is arguably the promotion’s biggest “star” in terms of general recognition…and even with his few lackluster UFC fights the fans still seem to love him..and now he is being put in a really risky fight.
But if you look at that card there isn’t a single fighter that I could see selling this show at all. Hieron and Horodecki will potentially be minor draws for the promotion down the road. But Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira is kind of in the “co-feature” spot and neither of those guys carry any sort of credit with the casual fans.
This show won’t draw for crap on PPV right now.

The folk from WAMMA confirmed that if Belfort/Lindland fought…it would not be for the WAMMA belt…so it’s defnitely not gonna be up for grabs with Lindland fighting Prangley. Prangley’s a decent fighter…but isn’t a top ten MW(neither is Belfort).

huh?
I think you misread that. WAMMA said that neither fight would be for the title…that is the correct decision on their part.

They never officially released their PPV numbers from the first fight if my memory serves.
They are going to have to do a better job of familiarizing the casual fan with almost one fighter from each match-up. If Affliction chooses to market the same way they did on the first card, I believe they are going to lay an egg on this one. It’s no secret they are working on a much tighter budget.

From the looks of it, those numbers never will be released. But Atenco says they’re good. So let’s just believe him, okay? I mean, really, why should we doubt a guy with such a long history in MMA promotion….?

UFC shouldnt even counter program… if they do they shouldnt advertise it as some people always check if there is a ppv if they think ufc is on.

I don’t think the UFC will counter program…if they choose to do so…they could always show UFC 85 on Spike though.

I figure they will counter...
but not with anything major. Just a replay of an old PPV as you mentioned…
If by some chance they manage to pull off the Tito signing as has been rumored…I’d say they should re-show 84. “See Tito Ortiz get chased out of the UFC by light heavyweight sensation Lyoto Machida.” Just CRUSH the idea that Ortiz “matters”

I wonder if they'd show UFC 88?
Or maybe just re-air the UFN from September.

If Affliction does by some chance sign Ortiz...
they could show “Not So Ultimate Ortiz” showing his fights with Frank, Randy, Chuck, Evans and Machida…
