Olympic TKD Fighter Assaults Ref
Wikipedia sums it up better than I could:
"In the bronze medal match in the men's 80+ kg class, Cuban gold medalist from Sydney in 2000 Angel Matos was set against Kazakhstan's Arman Chilmanov. Matos sustained an injury in the second period (at which point he led the match 3-2) and sought medical attention. Under World Taekwondo Federation tournament rules players sustaining injury are allowed one minute of Kyeshi time, at the end of which the competitor in question must return to the center of the ring to resume the fight or request further time, or else forfeit the match. The referee gave a time warning at 40 seconds, but Kyeshi elapsed without Matos returning to the center. In line with strict Olympic taekwondo regulations, the referee declared the match for Chilmanov. Furious, both Matos and coach Leodis Gonzalez immediately returned to the center of the ring protested the decision. Officials and commentators were unanimous in agreeing with Swedish referee Chakir Chelbat's decision. Matos however lost his temper and attacked the referee, delivering a kick to Chelbat's face (Chelbat would later require stitches to the mouth). Commentators and audience looked on in shock as Matos and coach had to be restrained by officials and taken out of the ring. Matos eventually left the arena to a chorus of boos from the audience. "This is a strong violation of the spirit of taekwondo and the Olympic Games" read a stadium official in the aftermath, and the World Taekwondo Federation promptly announced that both Matos and coach Gonzalez had received life bans from international taekwondo competition, and that all of Matos' participation at Beijing would be stricken from the records."
