Seriously passed up on the Olympics?

Did he just not compete in the trials … was a favorite to make the Olympic team? Wow, that’s pretty nuts.

Even though you have a tendency to go off on a rant I see big progress and potential for your show. Good work and keep it up. I enjoy the podcasts.

it’s on talk radio…… it’s kinda like that old saying “look bitch you knew i was a snake”, rants are a bit of a given for talk radio….. luke transcends the forum the show is on for the most part, though…..that mayeda stuff from last week was top of the food chain, so to speak…..

i’ve listen to most of the shows live…missed this week, will have to catch it on the podcast…..

I’m sure its an acquired taste. Give me a few more listens to get settled in. The show would work really well if he had a side kick, kinda let him catch his breath every now and then ;)

Mahalo

Thanks chief (even if that were a compliment to Luke). Had a good time on the show, and as I mentioned I enjoy this site very much. I’ve subscribed to the podcast. For me personally, talk radio can take some getting used to, especially certain hosts. I used to scoff at Arnie Spanier on Sporting News Radio; then I got used to listening to him, his rants, his self-deprecation, and so on. Now I get frustrated when I miss his show.

your segment was good stuff…..i write for another blog, www.mmapayout.com, and i put up a post to link over to the radio show for your segment. that stuff was a thinking man’s segment, one i thought my readers would enjoy.

you know…arnie spanier is a stinkin genius…..lol…. i remember that guy, he loved my alma mater ECU , and picked them over miami back in 99,….. the school had a lovefest with him after that.

Thanks, friendo

I don’t even know if I’m a fan of the rant either, but I’ve got two hours to kill and unless there’s a guest there’s no one to talk to. Yeah, you’re talking to listeners, but you’re still in there alone. If a soapbox provides me anything, it’s enough argument and material to last a 15 minute segment. There’s utility in that, too. But I hear you. It can get tedious.

Listening now great show.

One question though: Lesnar did take a pretty hard knee out of the clinch to the chin, and did get hit with knees and punches to the gut.

by Michael Rome on Aug 16, 2008 11:13 PM EDT reply actions

that clinch and knee stuff (+ a little dirty boxing) was the gameplan i thought he should have used against Mir, hubris made him take it to the ground in that fight (which i figured it would) and it was his undoing….. i did a preview to that show from my blogspot back then …may have to dig it up and post it……. i think i called mir by 2nd round sub

Listening now. Glad the show is up so soon. Maybe writing to wjfk paid off after all.

“If you find somebody telling you that Brock Lesnar is ready to take over MMA, stab this person. Because they’re probably retarded.”

So… I should… stab retarded people?

by Chris Nelson on Aug 17, 2008 12:44 AM EDT reply actions

That’s hilarious, but not exactly politically correct.

I picked Lesnar for good reason

You and Breen have trivialized the Lesnar pick, but it’s not based on nothing as you’ve both stated. I did pick Lesnar and this is what I based it on:
- Lesnar’s athleticism will help him from gassing early
- Lesnar’s chances of taking Herring down were very good.
- Lesnar showed good reflexes against Mir
- Lesnar keeps his hands high
- Herring has shown lousy skills off his back against wrestlers
- Lesnar has the resources at his disposal to train adequately for Herring
- Randy Couture suggested that Herring was very stubborn in his training
Now I’m not saying that Lesnar is the next big thing, and I realize that his chin is untested and that Herring Could have knocked him out, but my Lesnar pick was far from based on nothing.

With that said, I was swayed from my original desire to pick Huerta in the fight. Both you and Breen’s rationale for picking Florian was sound. So thanks! I did pretty well on that card (8-2).

Also, you can’t brag about doing well on 7/19, because those were really easy.

Fight Night's

You mentioned on your show the quality of UFC Fight Nights so I thought I’d offer this.

On a five point rating scale, these are the average ratings for events this year:
3.77 UFC main events (8 events)
2.90 UFC Fight Nights (including TUF Finale) (4 events)
meanwhile:
3.76 WEC (4 events)
3.65 Dream (5 events)
3.09 Strikeforce (2 events)*
2.97 EliteXC (4 events)

I did not track Strikeforce at the Dome, which surely would have brought down their average. Not enough people rated Sengoku events.

Another solid show

Luke the way you say Afro-MOW-itz is too funny. You’re worse than Bruce Buffer.
