Quote of the Day 2: Joachim Hansen
I would fight anyone of the UFC lightweights, but the problem is that I will never put my foot in the octagon after they (UFC) tried to be funny, I would rather have bleeding hemorrhoids than fight for the UFC.
- Joachim "Hellboy" Hansen, who was none too pleased when Zuffa bought PRIDE and tried to offer him 1/2 of his contracted salary for a fight against Marcus Aurelio.

That sucks. He’d be a great addition to their LW division.

I can kind of see his point. I’d be pretty pissed too if one day my boss said, “Hey, we’re cutting your paycheck in half.”

Its more than that though. They refused to honor his original deal, which was NOT extravagant by any means, it just didn’t mesh with their “four fights starting at 4 and 4” standard operating procedure for bringing in fighters. Then they asked him to tear up his contract and sign for way less. THEN when he wouldn’t, they dicked him around for a while instead of doing the professional thing, which would’ve been to release him.
I know some people will defend the UFC and say “it’s a business”, but thats a two way street, and the company’s total lack of respect for Hansen evidently has burnt the bridge. I can understand them wanting to protect their interests and keep the entry level pay artificially low, but the did a poor job of handling the situation

You know all this how? With Hansen’s recent performances against Alvarez, Mitsuoka, and Ireland I’m not sure you’ll find anyone but fanboys who think he deserves $200,000 a fight.

Who said anything about 4k and 4k? Exactly my point.

I'd beg to differ
Smoogy didn’t cite links but Hansen’s complaints about the UFC have been consistent and it’s undeniable that they forced him to sit out several months for the contract to expire. He wasn’t the only one, many of the PRIDE fighters had to take unwanted sabbaticals — Kawajiri for one, Mark Hunt for another.

Hmm yeah winning a close decision in the best fight of the year against one of the top lightweights in the world, a truely shameful performance.

It looks like he’s set pretty well in Japan for the time being. He’s hugely popular with the fans, and he’s got rematches with Alvarez and Aoki to deal with in the immediate future, maybe even a superfight with Gomi in the distance.
I wouldn’t mind seeing him fight Chris Horodecki once Affliction folds either.

He would lose embarrassingly to most of the UFC’s Lightweights so I think he’s just trying to cover his ass with this quote.

He’s undersized for 155. He wanted in at 145 in the WEC, remember.

Yeah okay the only man who’s ever beaten Uno, Gomi and Aoki would lose embarrassingly in the UFC.

He’d be good in the IFL but get killed in the UFC. So would Aoki for that matter. Actually, I think it was a good call for him to refuse the UFC he’ll make more else where.

but then again, anybody who can’t hang in the UFC would make more money outside the UFC i.e. Ortiz, Tim Silvia, Andre Arlofski, etc.

Hansen is a great fighter and he’s entitled to his opinion and what he thinks he’s worth. Obviously the UFC disagreed. It’s just too bad it’s hard to really gauge who the best LW are in the world when there’s such a clear talent split between orgs.

I like Hellboy, and I don;t like the way the UFC negotiation went down, but i think he would have some trouble in the UFC.
The combination of the cage and the strong, weight cutting wrestlers in the UFC would provide a lot of bad matchups for him.

I’m glad he is not fighting in the UFC. I don’t watch American Trash.
