Rampage Jackson Will Be Back Sooner Rather Than Later
The UFC is already looking to book Quinton Jackson's next fight. Dave Meltzer reported in this week's Wrestling Observer that the UFC was looking to book him in a big match for the November show that currently has no main event.
Bloody Elbow has learned that despite Wanderlei Silva's desire to fight in December, the UFC is trying to sign him to fight Quinton Jackson in November. They already have Mir-Nogueira and either Penn/GSP or a Liddell fight for December, and they don't want to overpack the card at the expense of other cards.
The November show is rumored to be taking place in Portland, Oregon.

Wanderlei/Rampage would be a HUGE draw. If they can get that done they need to put the other main events on other cards.. I would buy a PPV just for that fight

It’s hard to say. I mean, it would be an easy story to tell, though I think the draw might be more to fans like you and me. If the November card is Rampage-Wand and Lesnar-Kongo, it should do well I think.

That would definitely be a nice top 2.

Its hard to pinpoint how much drawing power either of them have at this stage, but at the very least they have had good exposure. If a Wandy vs. Rampage headlined PPV did over 500,000 buys I bet they’d be pretty happy

I think they’d be thrilled if it did that. Honestly, I think it could. Wand was super over as a star at the last show, had a crazy KO, Rampage is a star now, and the fact that they have all that footage and hate each other can’t hurt.

You know, i thought Wandy might be done as a draw, but considering the decimation of Jardine and a hard fought loss to Chuck, I think he still has some left in him. We all know his place in mma history, but i think those two performances may give him a new generation of fans.

I really want to see a Rampage/Shogun UFC fight, but Wandy is probably better at this point.
If Rampage wins, it sets up a rematch with Forrest.
If Wandy wins, it sets up a title shot or rematch with Chuck.
And, unfortunately, I would like Shogun to get an easier opponent to get the rust off and gain confidence in his knee. Damn, last thing I want to see is that knee come apart again.

I always get uncomfortable with these fights cause I like seeing both guys win. Still, they have to establish Shogun before they feed him a big name…I expect he’ll fight a mid level Light Heavyweight in his return. With over 15 months inbetween fights, it’ll be like starting over for him, and hopefully he does well. Maybe Bonnar or Coleman in December.

They considered it but the Canadiens play every week, and the only way they’d ever consider doing the stadium is if they had a couple gigantic fights. November is too early for GSP-Penn. They’ll be back in early Spring 2009 I think.

Seriously
What if he’s in jail? Or just maybe too busy fighting a court case to attend?
I’m not a legal expert, but it seems more than silly to build a card expecting Rampage to be able headline.

Considering that charges have yet to be laid, and the speed at which the court system works (especially factoring in appeals), even IF Rampage spends time in prison (which is far from a lock at this point), it would likely be a year away. At this point, Rampage’s primary legal concerns are from civil suits, which will cost him a lot of money but don’t result in jail time.

Word. Either way it sounds like it’s a set of awful conditions to plan or train for a fight.

That’s very true, though from the sounds of it, Rampage wasn’t exactly training in the best of conditions before his last fight, either. Maybe the shake-up will force him to concentrate. Who knows? It’ll be interesting to see how this unfolds.

It sounds like they don’t expect it to happen…and the court process is pretty long and drawn out. I’m sure the lawyers will take care of it while he trains to fight. Maybe there’s some sort of plea agreement or something that will keep him out of prison.
I’m with you though, it sounds risky unless they know more than us…but they might.

Frickin’ Habs. Would it kill them to play ONE weekend away from home?
