EliteXC Cancels September 20th Show

Breaking news from the Fight Network's John Pollock, as EliteXC has apparently scrapped their "Return to Showtime" event which was scheduled to be headlined by Joey Villasenor and Murilo "Ninja" Rua.

Elite XC has cancelled their September 20th event that was scheduled to take place in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mauro Ranallo will have much on this breaking story today on Fight Network Radio on Sirius 98 Hardcore Sports Radio at 3pm EST.

Other fights affected would include a 140-pound title fight between Wilson Reis and Bao Quach, a female bout between Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos and Yoko Takahashi, and Paul Daley's return to the States against former IFL'er Lyman Good.

More as it's available; if you've got Sirius and were able to catch Mauro's show, please enlighten us non-satellite listeners in the comments.

Smart move, they were stretching things a little thin considering the close proximity of the next CBS show

Yeah, I don’t think this says much other than they realize they need to concentrate all their resources on making that CBS show a huge success.

Don’t they have another event on Showtime tonite as well?

Shoxc tonight, shouldn’t really influence the sept or oct cards.

good idea

i would guess they will move all those fights the oct 4 cbs show

That’d be interesting. Daley is a young and marketable guy, and obviously the title fight should be on TV, but then they’d have two female fights on one card – maybe put Cyborg/Takahashi on the Showtime card and Gina/Kobold on CBS.

And steak, yeah there’s a ShoXC card on Showtime tonight. Should be a good’un.

and so it unravels...

cash flow is king brothers…

lack of cash flow kills… profitability is secondary.

Ive seen many profitable businesses go under because of cash flow… I used to be in the business of picking these puppies up.

Elite XC is neither profitable or cash abundant.

This is the next step to getting to the “hex” stage of their life span.

proelite’s “hex” will be the kimbo, carrano ppv announcement.

Thats a pretty big assumption

by smoogy on Aug 15, 2008 5:10 PM EDT up reply actions

is it still an assumption?

I would think the media would have figured it out by now… but wait a few days and they will understand.

lol at the “hex stage”, nice.

And considering the fighters on the card, i don’t really see the money being an issue.

With the cash problems they have, even the general costs of putting together and running the event may be more than they can handle right now. That CBS event is gonna require a ton of cash.

Reis & Quach

I hope the show moves intact to Oct.4 for their sake. Neither of those two guys can catch a break. Both are exciting fighters to watch & they haven’t been able to get the exposure they deserve. I was looking forward to that fight.

It looks like Cyborg will face Takahashi at the Sept. 20 event. How does EXC decide on the non-Carano female bouts. It just seems strange that this fight is supposed to be at 148, and Cyborg just fought at 140. She and Gina are supposed to be on a “collision course.” Is it going to be for the 140 or 148 or the 144.5 pound title. I thought 140 was their main division. I don’t think I’m making sense. Freaking EliteXC and their goofy weight classes and catch weights.

Disregard that last post.

I’m freaking stupid. I got the dates all screwed up in my head.
