Quick question – How do you collect your winnings on “He will never fight again”. When he dies?

This is kind of old. It was put up on bookmaker almost 2 weeks ago, and it already gone off the site.

Interesting! EOG just posted it today and it was the first I’d heard of it…

only 2 possibilities...

There are only 2 real possibilities:

1: he never fights again

or

2. he fights in the UFC per whoever they offer

Do you realize even if he can win the case how long they can keep him in court?

by mmalogic on Aug 15, 2008 3:08 PM EDT reply actions

Actually, not as long as you think. Both sides have now submitted the case to arbitration, where an independent arbitrator approved by both sides will decide on the contract. That should come down within 3-4 weeks. If the arbitrator rules for Randy, and I have my doubts he or she will, then there is likely an appeals clause, but the entire system of arbitration moves much faster than the court system.

They can sue him for breach for what he’s done so far but it won’t keep him away from fighting. They are going to have to make a call on signing Fedor or making a deal to make Randy happen in the next week or two. If they win in arbitration then it’s going to be appealed as well, but if a loss for Randy is upheld then he will get to choose whether to retire or fight in the UFC again.

The “keep in court forever” tactic is kind of a common myth along with frivolous lawsuits. It’s true when it comes to complex transactions and breach situations, but in a straight up contracts case, they cannot just stall it out forever. Judges don’t like it and will start ruling against motions if they think the intention is just to draw things out.

what mmalogic says 2 post above is right on the money. This is not that hard as to where Randy will fight again becasue there are only 2 possibilities for Randys Foreseeable Future in MMA and that is eather he fights for the UFC or he never fights again. It’s about 99% certain the UFC will win its lawsuit against Randy and even if they don’t then can do about 100 appeals and hold him up from fighting and drag it out in court until he is about 83 years old. So what it pretty much comes down to is he will fight in the UFC or say goodbye ?

UFC lawyers are surely not as confident as you. It’s very complex, the arbitrators could really go either way. Many are pro labor and favor the free flow of labor, and may rule for Couture. This is not even close to a slam dunk.

I guarantee Zuffa gets their way

I guarantee Zuffa gets their way.

My guarantee may not seem to be worth much as most don’t know me… but we’ll talk once this whole thing comes to an end.

Even if they do rule for Randy which most think is unlikely Zuffa will appeal and just keep it in court going in circles, From what all legal experts have said Zuffa could keep this in court for years if they Wanted ? I have no idea if thats true sence know shit about law.
