Vitor Belfort out of Affliction 2, Expects December Title Shot
After his victory at Affliction’s debut, Vitor Belfort now is recovering from his broken hand and has been scratched from Affliction 2. "Man, I’m doing physiotherapy now and won’t be able to fight at October 11th, I wanna fight with 100%, so I’ll be at the next show to fight for the title", said the athlete to TATAME, confirming that he’ll still fight for the title. "I spoke to them yesterday and they said I’ll face the winner of Matt Lindland’s next bout for the middleweight title. He doesn’t have an opponent yet, but the winner of this fight will face me probably in December", told the athlete.

Sounds like Affliction is trying to get Jake Shields to replace Vitor – well, Jake says that, but Tom Atencio denies it.

It sounds like those who were worried that Affliction didn’t have enough depth in their roster were right. Well, maybe they can spend their way out of this problem…

How do you schedule a fighter?
How do you schedule a fighter on a card so soon when you know he has a broken hand???
Chalk it up to inexperience.
They signed roy nelson to fight buantello instead of paying sylvia for the fight… they asked him to take a pay cut :)
The buys on this card will be dismal like the first one except unlike the first one they will do badly at the gate (even though fedor doesn’t bring in the ppv he does bring in gate).
Granted the payroll will be alot less.
Vadim is now talking them into doing a co promotion in japan on new years eve… because i guess dream, yerronaka or sengoku don’t want anything to do with it.
My sources tell me Affliction had 10 million allocated for this venture.
They are estimated to be out of about 4m so far. They have a zero percent chance of making it out of the 3rd show… and with all of their contract obligations it looks like there will be heads rolling.
Elite’s last stand will be a ppv headlined by slice and gina vs cyborg… announcement will probably be made on the october show.
There is now a race on who will fold first.
UFC will probably counter the elite ppv which is smart and wont the affliction which isn’t necessary.

Actually a Fedor/Barnett fight would be a godsend for DREAM right now, but the logistics of Affliction co-promoting with any Japanese org just don’t work. And Nelson/Buentello is a way more compelling fight anyway. Sylvia can go be the AdrenalineMMA HW champ.
Where’s this info about the EliteXC pay-per-view? I think they’re still a way out from being able to pull any decent #s for one of those.

your right it is a better match up but my point is affliction is trying to procrastinate there obligations to sylvia.
If you only have 10m and blew 4m of it… and half of what’s left you have payroll obligations wouldn’t it be ethical to make sure at least those are satisfied by the time you blow the rest of the capital?
elite is doing the ppv because they have no other choice… it will be their last stand – correction on my post regarding the announcement:
They may do one more cbs show before the ppv if there deal isn’t cut after this one but the next time slice and carano fight it will be on a ppv.

From mmaweekly article:
"Vitor is out, I spoke with him I think yesterday and he told me," said Atencio. "Actually, it was on Tuesday we had a conversation for about an hour or so, and yeah, I guess he broke his hand in two places is what he told me and he had been having 2, 3 and 4 opinions on it. He finally got the opinion that he wanted I guess and they told him to step out for a while."
Is it just me… or is Atencio saying that Victor chickened out? Hopefully Lindland still gets to fight someone.

Yep
That’s what i got from it… but why would belfort deny himself a payday especially since the piggy bank for affliction looks to be running out.
Some investigation might yield to the fact that these guys received big signing bonuses and a loss might hurt his marketability when he goes to the next promotion.
Is it just me or does Atencio sound like he has a stick up his ass everytime he speaks?
I mean the guy looks so stuck up you just want to smack him.

Good point on the signing bonuses
Fedor’s hand and now Vitor’s? If these guys got ridiculous cash up front then Affliction is fubar.
