Jon Jones Impresses at UFC 87
Jon Jones has only trained MMA for 9 months, but he made his UFC debut this past weekend, and he convincingly beat Andre Gusmao. Jones obviously still has a lot to learn, but he showed an incredible amount of potential in this fight, busting out great takedowns and really innovative striking. He tried a lot of insane stuff, none of which really landed flush, but he kept Gusmao reeling and guessing the entire fight. I'd like to see him fight the winner of the Houston Alexander vs. Eric Shafer fight, or maybe some of the guys from the WEC that come over.

But Capoiera (sp?) is supposed to be all about innovative striking! It’s supposed to excel in keeping your opponent off-balance and confused! Are you telling me that it’s bullshit?
Now I have to change my favorite Tekken character… I guess Eddy Gordo was kinda cheap…

None of my friends will play me because we’re all in our 30s and leave Tekken to our teenage kids… Sigh.

Yeah, laugh it up pal. But after a hard day at the office, you can only punch computer people to relieve stress – I’ve got actual kids to beat. AW YEAH!
(Just kidding, CPS!)

I only just bought it, and have a terrible internet connection,
otherwise I’d offer to play you. I never mind getting my ass handed to me in fighting games…it’s a pretty rare occurrence. So far, I’m digging Amy, and Taki/Mitsurugi are my holdovers from previous incarnations.
On a related note, I won a state-wide championship for Soul Edge, playing Taki, back when it was first released in arcades. The Soul Edge/Calibur games have always had more significance for me than Tekken.

I love both, but..
I’ve won more tournaments in SC than Tekken, though my abilities are comparable (and I hated Tekken 4 but hey, SC III was pretty shite too). Mitsurugi has always been my guy, but I’ve got other favorites (Astaroth, Voldo, Nightmare, Cervantes) and can play as literally anyone (though I actually hate only Amy). Mitsurugi got nerfed a bit this time, but I like it, because now fewer people play as him (and even fewer, yet, are any good). Case in point—his 8-way/forward down/B/B is now mist-stance (with an annoying audible que) forward/B/B and can be automatically countered when defended. Lots of shit like that..
I’ve been in a bunch of SC tourney’s and won more than a few, but the last one of any repute I took part in was for Soul Calibur II in a Namco sponsored 200 man tourney in like 01. I landed second in that one, embarrassingly losing to a Kilik player. I’ve become too old/busy to actively seek tourneys, but I wouldn’t be opposed if one was happening as I walked into a mall. Too bad arcades are dead..

Yeah, it really is too bad that arcades are dead.
I mean, it goes without saying that we all prefer to game in the privacy of our own homes. But that experience was similar to going to a theater to watch a movie, rather than waiting for it to come out on bluray or whatever and screening it in the privacy of your own home.
I think there’s still a way to make arcades work, but you’d literally have to get the whole video game industry behind you, and they’ve got no motivation to do so.

Goldberg: “Black shorts Jones, white shorts Gusmao”
Rogan: “Or, Black guy Jones, White guy Gusmao, never understand why nobody says this”
Goldberg: “That was Joe Rogan who said that, not me”

And Joe’s right. There’s nothing wrong with describing the way people look when you’re trying to indicate who’s who. It’s not racist to describe me as a white guy. And it’s accurate, as long as you phrase it, “the STUNNINGLY HOT white guy is…”

I think we’re well past the uptight PC days where you can’t call someone black—sometimes being too formal is more suspect to me (I’m an American born Lebanese dude—if someone called me middle-eastern-American I’d probably roll my eyes and walk away).
By the way.. are you saying that it would be cool for Rogan to call Jones the stunningly hot black guy?

Who would object to being called
“Stunningly hot?” I mean, he is a black guy..might as well get paid a compliment while someone is stating the painfully obvious…right?

Jones would undoubtedly be flattered..
..but Rogan would have to hand in his microphone.

Are you suggesting that Jones would
immediately demand a date with Rogan, causing Joe to hand in the microphone to avoid the inevitable beatdown?

He’s like a baby Spider. Sort of. If only in the build and natural attribute department.
And so young… it will be interesting to see his game develop.

Heh, poor Gusmao looked a bit shellshocked towards the end of this fight. Shit was literally coming at him from all directions, and holding Jones down proved to be pretty much impossible
