Clip of the Day: Randy Couture, Thespian
At some level you have to find that character inside yourself. I've been around mean, nasty people plenty of times in my life and seen that first hand, so somewhere you have to find it inside yourself to relate to the character and hopefully that allows you to tell the truth to a certain degree and stay true to the role.
- Randy Couture, speaking to SI.com's Arash Markazi about his lead role in the new straight-to-DVD flick Scorpion King 2. Randy also notes that they airbrushed his cauliflower ear on the movie poster.

Couture: Well, the language in [my UFC] contract is pretty clear. It’s 18 months or four fights and the 18 months expired on July 19, so we’re in a 30-day grace period for negotiating or re-negotiating with the UFC. If they find a way to make the Fedor fight happen, I’ll be all over it, but I don’t really see that happening realistically. The non-compete clause expires on Oct. 10, a year from when I resigned, and so I’ll be able to go back to work commentating and working with the other promotions and getting back into the business of MMA.
Hopefully we get to see Randy fight this year.

Is it 18 months or four fights? That’s kind of hard for me to believe, given that the UFC likes to lock up fighters in iron clad agreements. I also doubt it’s clear cut, either. My guess is there’s enough ambiguity in the contract to keep it in court for a good while longer, or it’s more like 18 months and four fights. I think Randy will have to do two more fights for the UFC (or remain inactive) unless a compromise can be reached.
I don’t believe Fedor will sign with the UFC although I think he could become a star while with the promotion. I can’t see anyone in the UFC’s heavyweight division beating him. However, a Fedor/Liddell fight at heavyweight would be awesome, in my opinion. I like that fight better than one with Randy. I believe Liddell would have a better shot at winning. He’s a counterstriker and very difficult to take down. How’s that for dreaming?

I don't want to watch the whole movie
But I’d like to see how his acting is across the movie. It could certainly get better. Especially is that shot was done early in filming.
Here’s hoping.

Randy trying to act mean = fail. Sorry Randy, I’m a big believer in sticking to what you are good at.

Damn straight: stick to contract disputes and not fighting, Randy! :-)

Randy seems to be diluting himself more and more. I think by now he’s been convinced to cash in on his name no matter what. Guess nobody told him it’s better to play a smaller role in a decent movie then a large part in a shit can. In film your only as good as your last role, kinda simular to the way you guys rate fighters. I also don’t think the legal battle will be over as soon or as easy as Couture seems to believe. Hope he makes some money off these parts because he’s gonna need it. Between lawyer fees (possibly for both sides), breach of contract, payment of advance ect. it’s gonna add up to some major dollars. I bet him and Kim don’t make 10 years, once he’s broke and retired.
