Anderson Silva vs. Rich Franklin I on UFC.com

Frfrf_medium

To defeat Affliction, the UFC is really turning their July 19th event in "The Anderson Silva Show", which I tend to think is genius. While the UFC's card that night overall isn't as good as Affliction's, the talking points of "free fights" and "greatest fighter in the world on Spike TV" are far more effective than any argument being used by Affliction. Hats off to the UFC for smart messaging.

I'd further add that clearly the strategy of using UFC.com to showcase various fights for UFC objectives is working. Watching a one off fight on UFC.com is significantly more appealing to many UFC fans than sitting through an entire episode of "UFC Unleashed",  commercials and all. I seriously doubt this represents any attitude by Zuffa to warm their relationship with Internet media, but this is effective use of the medium nonetheless.

That’s going to be a great 30 seconds on the 19th!

"They said you was hung!!"

"And they was RIGHT!"

Irvin has a strong chin, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it make it into the second round. Silva never really comes out swinging anyway.

I definitely like the idea of the Anderson Silva marketing push. He’s going to be on top for a while, may as well get him over with the general public.

Irvin also has devastating leg kicks, tons of power, and a penchant for throwing “flashy” strikes, and not only landing them, but putting guys away with them.

Irvin’s training in Thailand will help in this matchup

Damn

It sounds like Rich is in love! 90% of that was just talking about how GREAT Silva is and not a whole lot about the actual match up

all you gotta do is...

Zuffa strikes again

Got to give it up to the peeps over at Zuffa.

Say what you want about Dana White et all but they know how to throw punches when it counts. This forces the Trump peeps to spend more money on getting their product out.

Once again, the UFC shows why it’s the top dog in the MMA world right now.

As for the fight itself, great card for a free night! Love seeing Silva fight and now I will get to do so sans the PPV charge.

Silva may not speak English, but he speaks the international language of brutality. I’m glad to see the UFC utilizing him in a more prominent role. He’d get my vote as the best pound for pound fighter in the world. I agree that this effort by Dana and friends looks more ingenious by the day.
