Quote of the Day: Forrest Griffin
"If you look at UFC champions: BJ Penn - terrifying! GSP - terrifying! Anderson Silva - terrifying! But I'm not terrifying. I am not the super-submission guy, I am not the one-punch KO guy, so I am not the most feared guy in the world.
"But I will not quit, I will not break and I will fight you like a dog for every second of every round. I am not a super-talented guy, I'm just a dude who will fight you tooth and nail."
-- Forrest Griffin, the fighter with no special powers, not even a nickname. Now he's the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion.

A talent in its own
So many champions lose their edge over time and with it their “super-submission guy” abilities and their one-punch knockouts, but Forrest’s tenacity and resilience is at an unheard of level. His fighter’s mind makes him do what he does.

Something else
He was talking about his first time being in the same room with Shogun. He said that he didn’t look that tough and he would like to slap the dog shit out of him. No fear.

This quote isn't even close to what Forrest Griffin actually said
Click on the video above and listen to him talk while looking at the quote as it was written. The sentences have been totally rearranged.

Are we sure he’s not repeating talking points? I’ll look into it, but isn’t that a possibility?

Enough Already with all the bravado.
Griffin’s great. He’s got a ton of heart and iron will. But so do the majority of warriors that step into that cage. I’ve seen Chris Leben fight tooth and nail with far less skills than opponents and win, bloodied and battered, but undeterred. We’ve watched guys like Frank Shamrock (see the Cung Lee fight), and even loud mouth Phil Baroni, keep coming when their brains are literally bruised. Guys like Gracie get their elbows dislocated and keep going “because they have heart and will.” I love Griffin just like you all do, but he plays this card openly, when other guys don’t say a thing. If you’re in that Octagon, you’re supposed to fight every minute of every round, and damn it, for my $55 bucks, you’d better. And last I checked, Rampage isn’t a great submission guy or super technical guy either. And last I checked, last night, with a jacked left knee, he kept coming, fighting every minute of every round too. And by the way, he should still have his belt too and the $100,000 victory bonus that comes with it. But he’s a PRIDE product and Forest is the UFC’s pride and joy. It’s obvious you’re a huge Griffin fan Luke. And rightfully so, he’s great. But I think you and everyone else, may need to tone it down just a bit. He enters a cage to do hand to hand war like any other MMA professional. Heart and will should be a given, not something to talk about.

Uhhh
That wasn’t Luke’s quote; it was Forrest talking about himself. And your understanding of the fight game is tenuous at best. All fighters enter the cage with heart, you have to or you wouldn’t be a fighter, but few display that heart once they’ve been rocked. It’s the special ones that keep coming, and more importantly, stick to their gameplan, when they face pressure.

No doubt.
The past couple of days there have certainly been some “interesting” people joining this site…

Yeah
I don’t expect people to agree, I mean if they did, there’d be no need for comments. I have to admit I miss the days when you could read comments here and see people thinking and at least making an effort to make cogent statements and spell things correctly.
Bloody Elbow isn’t our little secret anymore, and I’m cool with that, but I just wish the visitors and the new people would try to follow the lead of the authors when they comment.

$55? I only pay I think $44.95 for the PPV in HD.

You do?
I thought the HD broadcast was 60 bones.

$45 here. I think the standard definition is the same price. Cox cable.
