Report: Vitor Belfort vs. Matt Lindland at Affliction 2

Matt_lindland Tatame has the scoop:

The knockout over Terry Martin at Affliction’s first edition didn’t only put Vitor Belfort back to victories, but can get him a title fight. Belfort’s broken hand might not be a trouble for his next fight. “The doctor will analyze it, but I may stay four weeks out. I’ll come back in October 11th to fight Matt Lindland for the belt”, told the athlete, that will face the Fábio Negão’s opponent on Affliction’s first event.

As for the match-up, I'd have given Lindland the easy nod prior to his fight with Negao. Negao is the sort of fighter who is hard to look good against in many respects, but irrespective of that, Lindland looked lackluster. However, Lindland's guillotine could be trouble if Belfort's fight with Overeem is any indication.

Also of interest is the "belt" they speak of. Will this be an Affliction belt? Another WAMMA belt? Strange stuff.

If it’s for the WAMMA belt, WAMMA is officially a farce.

if the rumor’s of Fedor’s hand injury are true, they’ll need a lot better fights than this.

Fedor/AA
Babalu/Tito (rumored)
Lindland/Belfort

now, add

Aleks/Sylvia
Barnett/???
Lil Nog/a legit lhw or Babalu if no Tito

And I will be happy. I liked the fighters on the first card, but not the fights. I’m hoping 2 will feature more compelling match ups and lower salaries!

What fights would you guys like to see on this card??

Oh, and has any one ever gotten more credit for beating an extremely average fighter, than Belfort over Martin?

Don’t get me wrong, it was a needed win, but Martin is not Silva. I’m just glad to see Belfort back, but I will wait and see what he does against a higher level fighter.

Bad blood w/ Randy?

Nobody’s touched the sideline story here: An Xtreme Couture fighter is taking on Randy’s former BFF @ Team Quest (I believe they were both partners/co-owners w/ Robert Follis). This certainly adds more tension and intrigue to the fight.
