Anthony Johnson's Eye Surgery

http://knoxxgear.wordpress.com/2008/07/25/anthony-rumble-johnson-after-his-eye-surgery/

Anthony “Rumble” Johnson had to get laser surgery today because Kevin Burn’s finger damaged the retina of his eye. He also had a laceration from one end of his eye to the other end which required stitches. UFC took care of all expenses for this surgery since it was related to his incident in his last UFC fight.

He wants to tell everyone that his surgery went smoothly and he would also like to give thanks to all his family, friends and fans for their continuous support. Once his eye heals he will start up his training because he would like to fight atleast one more time before the end of this year.

Added pics… I hope the fight gets changed to a ‘No Contest’.

I hope this puts to rest the people that have said that Anthony Johnson gave up and wanted a way out – and those comments that he was acting when he fell down.

Besides this fight being overturned to a NC or DQ; I’d also like to see if there are going to be changes in the way fighters are cleared to fight. I would think that a fighter would have to show that he can make a closed fist as part of his physical.

This just makes his dignified and respectful reaction to the decision all the more impressive. He made a fan out of me.

Same here. I already enjoyed watching him because he was an entertaining fighter, but given the severity of his injury and his response immediately following the decision , he’s made me a fan.

It wasn’t Mazzagatti’s fault. he was not in position to see that the uppercut missed and had nothing to do with the reaction of johnson. They need to give the ref’s the proper tools, i.e. instant replay, to make the correct decision, or at least let the AC rectify the decision later.

It was Mazzagatti's Fault

There is a giant monitor at UFC events so fans in the nosebleed section can get a good view of the fights. They feed whatever is on the TV feed to that monitor, replays included. Besides…that is no excuse, Mazz needs to be on top of the action or have a doctor properly check AJ out. If he had taken the right steps it would’ve been obvious that he caught an eye poke.

Exactly...

he doesn’t have to make the call the second the fight ends. He can stop it and examine the situation. I think it is also clear that it wasn’t the uppercut considering that when Johnson went down he was never out. He was alert and talking the whole time…so it isn’t like he got KO’ed and then once he came to was rambling on about the eye poke.

I think it is entirely Mazzagatti’s fault. It’s a tough position to be in, but it doesn’t let him off the hook. As long as the decision is right in the end, that is all that matters though. So hopefully AJ gets things corrected.

On another note...

Anthony Johnson looks strikingly like Tracy Morgan in that second picture, to me at least.
