October Is Going to Be Insane for Mixed Martial Arts
July was a crazy month, but October may top it. Dave Meltzer reports today that the date of the next EliteXC show on CBS, which will feature Kimbo Slice and Gina Carano, has been tentatively set:
Tentative date for the next EliteXC show on CBS after Saturday would be 10/4.
Look at this tentative schedule:
10/4: Big EliteXC show with Kimbo Slice and Gina Carano
10/11: Affliction PPV with Fedor vs. Arlovski
10/18: UFC in the UK on SpikeTV
10/25: UFC PPV in Chicago, IL
That UFC PPV show may suffer. I have no idea what they can main event it with unless Georges is willing to do a 10 week turnaround against Penn.

You sure about this? MMA Junkie was reporting Silva-Cote for the UK yesterday. It seemed like Dave was just guessing in the newsletter.
Yep, Silva/Cote will be UFC 89.

I actually believe it will headline UFC 90, with Alves-Sanchez as the co-main event. We’ll have to wait and see

It was discussed as an option, but with the addition of Vera v. Jardine it sends the message that Bisping v. Leben is the main event. This makes sense, as it appeals to the local crowd and is a solid main event for a Spike broadcast.
Adding Silva v. Cote to 89 would be putting an awful lot of eggs into one tape delayed basket. Meanwhile, as you rightly pointed out, nothing appears to be on tap for Chicago’s UFC 90 PPV event. Enter Silva v. Cote. Silva, coming off a large amount of exposure on Fight Night 14 can reasonably be expected to draw on PPV (up from his typical 325k buyrate, anyhow). Add to that a matchup of welterweight contenders in Diego Sanchez v. Thiago Alves, and you’re off to a decent start for building a PPV broadcast.
Again, a fleshed our televised undercard will be important on this show, but the two top matches aren’t bad.
Come October, Wanderlei should be ready to smash someone else though. If Dana can book him for the Chicago PPV, it becomes instantly buy-worthy, if it isn’t already.

want to touch the hieney
anyone else think Gina Carano is the sweetest thing since sliced bread
I’m sure there’s a lot of us out there. The funny thing is she could so beat the crap out of me and I could do nothing about it.
YES
anyone else think Gina Carano is the sweetest thing since sliced bread
Rob Dib, you are far from alone on that thought. I don’t know about her beating the crap out of me though. I’d prefer she triangle choke me, or gogoplata.
on that note
Dear Bloody Elbow Staff & Michael Rome, in particular:
When posting a story that includes Gina Carano, why not use it as an opportunity to post a picture of her?
I understand that she isn’t the focus of this story, but I know that this has happened on stories which she has been focused on (06/25 & 06/04). I wouldn’t be so critical if you didn’t post pictures of other fighters, but many entries do include pictures—and they are of unattractive people.
Don’t get wrong—I love this site, but how about a little eye candy for your faithful readers?
Wow thats strange. The first thing that popped into my head when reading this was Adam Sandler’s “sooooo hot, want to touch the hieney”.
At least you have a good excuse in that you were thinking about Gina, I was literally just thinking about how great October is going to be.
I think that might be a sign that I like MMA a little too much.
kinda figured
I thought I wasn’t the only one. :)
Yes this month will be a good month also.. but Gina should and always will be my first thought.
Wandy
MAYBE Rampage.
Does anyone know if Mark Coleman will be ready?
My guess is they have a main event in mind, but have not signed the contracts as of yet.
I would include Cain Valasquez/Mark Coleman.
How about Bonnar? I thought he was going to be out for six months. Late October might work, and he is from Chicago. If so, Bonnar/Silva.
If Rampage can go, I would guess he will be on it.
I don’t see anyway Rampage is going to be ready to fight by then. That being said…
Rampage-Wanderlei for the title shot against the winner of Forrest-Chuck/Rashaad would be an A+ main event (Although I think that might lead to Machida actually killing his next opponent in the ring so he doesn’t get skipped over anymore).
Day,
We are talking three months from now. We don’t know if Rampage would be ready, since we don’t know how serious things are for him right now.
Rome,
I don’t think Lesnar will be able to fight six weeks after Heath. I think Lesnar will win, but I think it will be a tough fight.
I could see Silva/Cote, but I think that is a fight that should be one Spike, via tape delay. Silva/Irvin peaked at 4.8 million, I think Cote/Silva could go over 5 million.
