Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Quote of the Day: Georges St. Pierre, Renaissance Man

200px-georgestpierre_medium

MMA STOMPING GROUNDS: What's one thing you want people to know about you that they might not already know?

ST. PIERRE: Fighting is not my life. Fighting is what I like to do in my life and it's part of my life, but it's not my whole life.

MMA STOMPING GROUNDS: What do you like to do away from fighting?

ST. PIERRE: I'm a very intellectual guy. I like to study about things like philosophy, archaeology and things like that. I'm a big fan of movies, too. I go to movie theater every week, sometimes twice a week.

MMA STOMPING GROUNDS: Who is  your favorite actor?

ST. PIERRE: It's … damn, what's his name? Forrest Gump … Tom Hanks. That's it.

 - UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre, in an interview with the Baltimore Sun's Mark Chalifoux

I hope he wasn’t serious about looking up to Houston Alexander.

Houston is a good PERSON...

so I have no beef with looking up to him

I met Houston at a UFC event in Columbus. He took the time to get on the phone with my friend, who is a huge fan of his but couldn’t make the show, and thanked him for the support and talked to him for about a minute then took pictures with my friends and me. Then after the show I saw him again and we talked about fighting and how easy his job was and how great full he was for all of his fans. (I told him that his job was harder than mine since no one is punching me in the face at my job).

Seriously great guy.

That’s awesome. I have even more respect for him now than I did when I found out he was a DJ.

Not sure if you’re joking because Goldie seems to mention it every time he fights. (I tune him out sometimes too…)
But if not, yeah, he used to go by “Strong Arm” on Power 106.9 in Omaha.

Haha, yea, I think my problem is that I was at the Houston-Jardine fight so I didn’t hear it then and I missed Houston-Sakara. (And unfortunately even Goldie can’t get out all of his fun facts in the 9 seconds of fight time fro Houston-Irvin).

That is pretty awsome, I had no idea. I have family there and was thinking about attending the upcoming card. I’ll have to do some research on that.

Thanks for the heads up (and diving past the ever present potential sarcasm).

Also, my friends and I have a drinking game for Mike. Every time he smiles awkwardly at the camera when Joe is talking, drink. Every time he emphasizes a word out of nowhere, drink. Every time he shills a product mid fight, drink.
Mix in a little drink every time the camera catches Buffer land one of his turns and its a pretty fun night.

I’m sure he’s a great person but I guess GSP should have made that more clear.

He sure does look up to some questionable folk, be it the steroid-using Royce Gracie or the cocky Matt Hughes.

Philosophy? Really? Who is he kidding?

I would accept that he was a big fan of Foucault and Baudrillard, but then he says his favorite actor is Forest Gump? Seriously? And now I’m supposed to wonder if he’s a post-structuralist or something?

My bologna has a first name, its G-S-P…A-R? Whatever. Something like that.

That read more like him thinking out loud trying to come up with Hanks’ name, not him saying Forrest Gump was his favorite actor. That said, I also doubt he’s a serious student of philosophy.

The Gump thing MAY have been a joke on my part.

How come he doesn’t mention his work as Mini Me in the three Austin Powers movies?
