Vitor Belfort Wants Frank Shamrock

Vitor_mediumVitor Belfort seems to have Affliction mixed up with EliteXC. From XtremeCouture:

Vitor: We have a contract with Affliction. I’m looking forward to them giving me good fights. I want to fight the best. I’d like to fight Frank Shamrock. That would be an exciting fight. It is something I would like to accomplish. He used to be one of the best. I think we are both still top 10 contenders. It will be an explosive fight, let’s get it on.

That fight would have rocked the MMA world in 1998. But even ten years later it would still garner some interest from the fans. Unfortunately Vitor is signed to Affliction and Frank is signed to EliteXC.

But Vitor is probably high profile enough...and beatable enough to meet Frank's exacting requirements for potential opponents.

Personally, I'd rather see Vitor fight Matt Lindland even though it would be hard for WAMMA to justify awarding either man a title unless Anderson Silva leaves the division.

Someone should let Vitor know that it’s 2008.

Vitor beating Frank Shamrock says what?

Stick a fork in Shamrock.

Vitor would destroy Frank

And it wouldn’t even be close. The hand speed, power, and ground advantages all go to Vitor. He’d murder Frank.

Vitor should focus on killing Lindland first. That’s what we all need to happen.

Pretty sure Frank is signed to Strikeforce.

by iki on Jul 22, 2008 6:12 PM EDT reply actions

nope

His Strikeforce contract was over after the Cung Le fight. That’s why we won’t be seeing anymore joint EliteXC/Strikeforce promotions since that was a shotgun marriage imposed by Frank’s decision to sign deals with both promotions at the same time.

WAMMA has said...

...that if they can’t get a UFC fighter or whoever is #1 to be involved in a title fight they’ll settle basically for “the best they can get” because…you know…that is the definition of an “undisputed champion.”

So I could see them pushing off Vitor/Lindland as a title fight.

lol, take away all their marketing talk and spin and that’s exactly what you’re left with; ‘the best we have access to.’
WAMMA isnt fooling anyone.

that's too bad

it seems like they could just award the UFC champs who deserve the belts and let them refuse them. That would make the UFC look bad rather than making WAMMA look stupid. The AP doesn’t need college football coaches to agree with their rankings.

I disagree...

I think it would make people say “well if the UFC and it’s fighters aren’t interested it obviously isn’t anything of consequence”

Vitor would KO Frank and it would be an easy way back into the spotlight. Good call for Belfort.

I guess, but who the hell wants to see that fight?

Wasnt the whole point of Elite XC being open contracts? I could have sworn Paul Daley saying he didnt sign with the UFC for something to that effect.
