-Frankie Edgar and Hermes FrancaKnockout of the Night:
-Rory MarkhamSubmission of the Night:
-C.B. Dollaway
UFC made the right calls here - Edgar and Franca had an exciting (if somewhat lopsided) war, Markham's head kick KO of Brodie Farber surpassed Anderson Silva's impressive starching of James Irvin in sheer brutality, and of course, you gotta give it up for the Peruvian necktie.

When Edgar vs. Franca gets fight of the night, there’s nothing much left to say.

Burns vs. Johnson could have got FOTN too. Both guys were clearly rocked many times through out the fight. I have a feeling the NSAC will overturn the decision.

Burns/Johnson was the best overall fight, marred by the worse decision I’ve ever seen.

I’m not sure if it really was that bad a call. Johnson went down like he was knocked out, albeit accompanied with screaming. The ref couldn’t have had any idea that it was a poke in the eye at that point, as he fell on to his front. If he stayed standing, but still flailing about in pain and holding his eye, it would be a lot more clearer. But, when he is on the floor and Burns goes in for the kill, the ref really has no other choice but to either let Burns hit him or stop the fight. So I think he made the right call given the circumstance.
Obviously, looking at replays , we know what should have happened, i.e. a timeout (or really a DQ given the frequency of the eyepokes), but hindsight and instant replays are wonderful things that a referee doesn’t possess.
As an aside, I wonder how long it will be before MMA witnesses a debate over the merits of additional technical referee’s using video technology to ‘assist’ a normal referee. Some sports, namely Tennis, Cricket, Rugby, have embraced it to varying degrees – others, e.g, football (soccer) have yet to make any great strides in this department, although I daresay bureaucracy and politics have their hand in that as much as anything else.

The call was indeed horrible
but perspective on the ‘worst ever’ – we have seen EliteXC on CBS.

The Peruvian Necktie was nice. Most fighters go for the RNC from the back, but the necktie gives another nice option for fighters when getting an opponent’s back. Yet another example of the versatility of MMA.

Burns/Johnson fight got ruined.
Every time I think Anderson Silva is gonna slip up he does something even more sweet.
Grabbing a kick and knocking out Irvin was hilarious.

Yves Lavigne is the best referee in MMA. Notice how he didn’t stop the fight due to only one tap from Jesse Taylor? He should ref all main events from now on.

The one time A. Johnson kicked K. Burns below the belt he stepped aside. Everytime Burns eye poked Johnson he continued like it was business as usual. Even when Johnson went down to the mat he paused – so he had to have known that it was b/c of the eye poke.
I have read on other sites that if Johnson had not reacted the way he did that maybe the ref would have made the proper call, but how can anyone “know” how to react to such a thing as a deep eye poke.
