Breaking News: Quinton "Rampage" Jackson Arrested for Hit and Run

Nope, this isn't a joke:

From Hollywood gossip site TMZ:

Former UFC light heavyweight champ Quinton "Rampage" Jackson got busted just minutes ago, and is currently in custody on the way to the clink, but not before he was ordering on the ground, cops nearby with guns drawn.
Law enforcement sources tell us, Rampage was in a car crash near Newport Beach (that's near Laguna Beach in the O.C.) and then split the scene. Cops gave chase and eventually caught up and charged him with felony hit and run and felony evading arrest.

Here's the deal about the dumbest hit and run ever. Notice the truck he tried evading police in -- the one with the giant picture of him plastered on the side!

We're told there could be additional charges. No word yet on whether Rampage resisted arrest.

UPDATE (from Luke Thomas):

Jackson, the driver of a lifted, gray pick-up truck left crashed cars, shredded tires and sparks in his wake this afternoon when he led police on a short pursuit from the southbound 55 freeway exit onto Newport Boulevard where he hit at least three cars, police said.

The driver hit two cars at 19th Street and Newport Boulevard, then drove away at about 1:13 p.m., Lt. Paul Dondero said.  A Costa Mesa police officer saw the driver southbound approaching 17th Street and tried to pull him over, police said. There, he hit at least one more car before continuing to run, now heading south toward the Balboa Peninsula, Dondero said. Some time after that, the truck blew a tire but continued to drive on its rims, Dondero said.

If this isn't some gag

Then Rampage might actually be the dumbest man alive.

Holy jesus. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

I wonder...

if he’s famous-enough to not do jail time…

This is how you market yourself...

...when the UFC refuses to do so.

Right?

Oh man, this looks really dumb. I hope there’s a good reason, like he was drinking or something.

A good reason like drinking?

On the UG:

CindyO said – Dana White already landed in the OC.

Tracy Lee said – He didn’t get bailed out. I’m guessing he fell asleep at the wheel.

Wow – the worst possible press for Toyo – first a flat tire, then it’s shredded.

And also, Rampage getting arrested, I guess. Though it certainly does get them street cred.

Aww shit, why do my favorite fighters always disappoint me? Next up GSP raping Mandy Moore and Randy Couture shooting somebody. Fucking Rampage, what were you thinking man?

Seriously. I love Rampage, so I hate to see this happen.

In the middle of the day?

Not that any of this makes sense, but that? That makes no sense at all.

Let’s also hope everyone who was hit is ok.

Rampage is going to get sued like a motherfucker.

GO DAMMIT….. what a complete idiot… i cannot believe rampage did this shit, he was already in trouble for losing to forrest, now hes going to get the shaft and have a shit load to work on before he ever gets back to the top, if at all.

by elamenop on Jul 15, 2008 7:41 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

do you think hes done financially?

by elamenop on Jul 15, 2008 7:42 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Terrible news, but we should be happy there is no news of injury or death. I figure like all celebrities he’ll get off criminally with something very small, and then settle with any parties he injured. It’s a big setback for a guy that turned his life around in a big way though.

It is so obvious this silhouette of a man in a cop car is rampage…. i could tell it from a 100 miles away

Hope no one was injured. I hate this for Rampage. This is definitely going be soaked up by the mainstream media. It’s incredibly stupid to flee the seen of accident. It’s insanity to run from the cops in a vehicle that has your likeness on the side of it.

maybe he just wanted more media attention or to prove he hadn’t gone soft (aka devout Christian).

ROAD RAGE

RAMPAGE on a rampage!

Who ever set him off should have known who he was and what he could do with them truck tires!

all you gotta do is...

At least no one was hurt. I hope he doesn’t have to spend too much time in jail.

by penxv on Jul 15, 2008 9:24 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

It sure is a good thing nobody got seriously hurt or even killed. Rampage needs to spend at least 5 years or more in jail. He is a danger to society. Imagine if he killed some kids or a mom or something. Damn. What a horrible person he is.

5 years in jail? What is wrong with you?

by Michael Rome on Jul 15, 2008 10:44 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That is really too bad. The guy was winning some fans with his clean-cut image, too :(

by misterjonez on Jul 15, 2008 11:52 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Seems too weird for anyone

There has to be something else here that we’re not hearing about. I didn’t see anything about it on the news so I have no idea what happened here.

I’m definitely going to withhold judgment until I hear all the facts on this, although if there was a plausible explaination I would expect we would have heard it now as the UFC P.R. machine tries to jump in front of the story.

I’m guessing that if he was evading and then gave up peaceably that he was ditching some weed on the way.

Orange County Jail website

I checked the Orange County Jail website and no one by the name of Quinton Ramone Jackson was arrested yesterday, today or Monday.
