UFC 89 Adds Three New Fights: Sokoudjou vs. Cane; Hardy vs. Gono; Carwin vs. Wain
Three very nice fights have been added to the "UFC 89: Bisping vs. Leben" card:
The Ultimate Fighting Championship(R) (UFC(R)) has added three thrilling bouts to the organisation’s next UK super-show. It has been confirmed that Rameau Sokoudjou will collide with Luiz Cane in a battle of light-heavyweight strikers, Japanese submission expert Akihiro Gono will take on on highly-regarded British debutant Dan Hardy and steel-fisted heavyweight Shane Carwin will exchange bombs with England’s own Neil Wain.
These three mouth-watering match-ups join the hotly anticipated main event of Michael ‘the Count’ Bisping v Chris ‘the Crippler’ Leben in the UFC’s third British show of 2008, which emanates from the National Indoor Arena, Birmingham, on October 18.
Finally, a card in England that's actually above average.

Hardy’s seriously on the fast track then. A pop at Gono is an incredible opportunity. The majority of fans might not know what a win would mean but you know that Joe Silva would and whatever happens that would be huge for his career.
A loss, of course, wouldn’t haha.

Joe Silva just loves putting tests to Japanese fighters. Whatever, Gono will prevail.

Even though I am picking Sokoudjou, I wouldn’t be surprised if Cane beats him.

I guess that means no Shogun vs. Sokoudjou :(

Starting to wonder if we’ll ever actually Shogun again, and if we do, if we will be left wondering whether the “old Shogun” is hanging out with the “old Vitor Belfort”.

Hardy vs. Gono is intriguing, but this is pretty much the same kind of pu pu platter they always book for the UK. You just have to hope it outdoes itself on paper, like UFC 80

Other than the lack of a legit headliner, I think the card looks really good.

Hey Luke, you didn’t think UFC 75 and 85 were good shows?
by The Legend on Jul 15, 2008 3:37 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Not really
75 was ok, but 85 was not. To me, at any rate.

great fights to add,
soku better not be looking past Cane, as he is a complete beast. Neil Wain is a great addition to the HW devision as well, and although he is a pitbull, Shane Carwin is simply scary, he hit Wellisch so hard i think a lucky fan caught his mouthpiece.

GONO!
forget about Dan Hardy. Can the UK handle one of Gono’s entrances?
