UFC Grand Prix Idea

<!-- / icon and title --><!-- message --> This is an email to a friend of mine and she said I should post it on here. It's mostly me thinking outloud, in email form anyway, and trying to come up with an idea. The rankings were just a real quick thing so don't bust my chops for that. Think up whatever rankings you want and whatever changes you think would be cool. Although, I could be biased and it may be the dumbest idea of all time but WTH.

P.S. I edited the email a bit so if some of it seems disjointed that's why.

I think they should have a Grand Prix for every weight class. It would be like the Dream Grand Prix and you take 8 guys and have them go at it. You'd have the first round, then three months later second round, and so on and so forth. It will take a long time to get it finished up so it would be a special thing and an honor for everybody involved.

Let's look at the lightweights.

1. Sherk

2. Joe Daddy

3. Tyson Griffin

4. Florian

5. Edgar

6. Huerta

7. Maynard

8. Diaz

This is just a quick ranking of what I would say the top eight lw's are in the UFC.

Anybody that gets injured gets replaced. How awesome would these matchups be though?

Sherk vs Diaz

Daddy vs Maynard

Grifin vs Huerta

Florian vs Edgar

I switched it up a tad because I didn't want Edgar and Griffin and Huerta and Florian fighting in the first round.

So Sherk probably wins but I could see Diaz pulling out a sub for the crazy upset. How awesome would that be? Daddy and Maynard would be epic as well. Huerta and Griffin is to close to call and Florian should take Edgar.

Second round

Sherk vs Florian

Daddy vs Huerta

Two of the first round matchups could go either way ,and I already talked about Diaz, and these fights could go either way as well.

So we go on to the finals for the LWGP title, 50,000 grand, and the chance to take on the champ!

Florian vs Daddy

It could go either way again, but in the interest of this fantasy matchup I'll take Florian. So it's Florian that takes the LWGP and he will get a title shot.

Man, this would be so exciting to be able to do this in all the weight classes. One a year so every five years it comes back up again and you have a new crop of fighters to do it. Or you could do two weight classes a year or something but that would be to much. I like the one a year thing because it makes it special. There are issues that could arise such as what to do with the champ for that amount of time but that should be easily remedied by some planning. Find a worthy challenger or two for the title and set them up to go at it while the GP is going on. The way I look at it is that it will benefit the "almost there" guys and the top tier guys may not want anything to do with it. I also look at it like it's an evolved TUF for lack of a better term. Just imagine if a guy runs through the GP and then beats the champ, it could be a Forrest type situation all over again. It's a star making vehicle, and even if they don't beat the champ for the belt they can say that they are the GP champ and market them in such a manner.

Grand Prix maybe...

I don’t think any commission will allow the fights to happen. But it is possible in England (since no commissions) and maybe Canada but not sure.

But if you altered the Prix into a tournament over a time period for network T.V. it may work

Why not?

It’s over the course of a year or so. Why would no commision allow that? It’s three fights for two fighters over the course of a year or so not a one night tournament.

Didn’t Maynard beat Edgar rather convincingly or is your seeding not based on anything?

Like it says in the post, it was just a quick list of fighters. The concept is more important than the rankings. It also says in the post to make up your own rankings and post your thoughts.

This is what happens when I comment while half asleep. Yes, it does say all of that. Sorry.
