The MMA Junkie has a good article about Lindland's political aspirations in Oregon and considering I just came back from the Pacific Northwest I figure it would be wise to impart some knowledge of the region.
Washington and Oregon are kind of like two brothers with totally different priorities. Oregon is progressive while Washington is regressive, at least in their tax system. Lindland is running as a fiscal conservative for the Republican party in Oregon and he will meet some stiff resistance even if elected. Oregon being a state run predominately by Democrats. In Oregon there is no sales tax, only income and property. The goal is to lighten the burden on lower income citizens. Also the higher income and property taxes go to schools, healthcare, roads and public transit which Oregon does fairly well in all categories.
Washington on the other hand has sales and property tax with no income tax. The idea is to make it easier to save money. The problem is it makes it easier for the upper income levels not the lower to save money. It does bring big business in though say Microsoft but you trade that for pretty shitty roads.
So if our Olympic Silver medalists makes it to Oregon's House look for him to battle the Democrats to be more like the great state of Washington. And if anyone from Affliction or his campaign reads this, how can you not get this guy on the Colbert Report. He's a Republican, he kicks ass and wins Olympic medals for the U-S-A. That would be the greatest Report in awhile He's gold I tell ya!
