Here's the skinny: the local CBS radio affiliate here in the Washington, D.C. area (106.7 WJFK) has hired me to do a weekend radio show devoted strictly to MMA. The show is called "MMA Nation" and will be live, 2 hours from 4 p.m. EST to 6 p.m. EST, podcasted and available by stream over the Internet.

I cannot possibly describe to you how excited I am for this opportunity. For starters, while I've enjoyed doing Internet radio, there's something uniquely satisfying about doing radio in a real studio as opposed to a guest room in my house.

Second, I'm actually a huge fan of the station. I listen to the morning and midday programs every day and catch the other programs as often as possible.

Third, I suppose this is some sort of a small but revealing achievement of MMA. This sport continues to raise it's public profile and consequently, more established and mainstream media outlets are beginning to cover the sport. In this case, though, we have a conflating of new media (me) with more traditional media (talk radio).

Lastly, I want to encourage everyone to listen and take part. I plan on having the best guests, talk segments, giveaways, live remote shows for local events and whatever else I can cobble together to make the best show possible.

A big thanks goes to Sam Caplan of FiveOuncesofPain.com. "MMA Nation" actually launched two weeks ago and Sam was our very first guest. He did a great job talking about the new UFC video game as well as "The Ultimate Fighter 7" Finale. I wanted to tell the entire free world he was going to be on, but the station asked me to keep it hush hush until they were ready for a more "formal" launch.
