Are Ricardo Almeida's Takedowns Good Enough?
Cote swears his abilities are beyond what we know them to be and believes his training with the Canadian National wrestling team will give him the edge he needs to sprawl and brawl against Almeida. Cote could be right, but Almeida's takedowns are actually very decent. He's got more than just a double or single, a nice deep penetration step, and has unspectacular if reliable set-up punch combinations for his takedowns.
Ultimately, this is what I suspect the fight will come down to. It's simplistic analysis, but the truth is hard to ignore: both fighters have strong talent in one dimension of the game and defensive talents in the others. The question will be whose is defensive enough to allow room for their own offense?

One more thing
That people are seeming to forget is Almeida is far from defenseless on his feet. his striking is actually quite good for a “BJJ” fighter. I think his striking is more than good enough to help set up his takedowns, and Cote does not have enough of a wrestling background to react instictively with a sprawl to Almeida’s takedowns. I think Ricardo eventually gets him down, and if this hits the mat its over. I see this similar to Big Nog and Timmy. Cote may win the striking battles, but the first time it hits the mat he is in big trouble.

True
But he can’t win on the feet. Ultimately, he needs this fight to be on the floor if he has any chance of winning.
Yep^^
Almeida’s got this one…
