Congratulations to Michael Westbrook
Believe it or not, the former Washington Redskin won the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Championships in the purple belt division, Super Pesado weight class (full results for brown belt and under here). Even more interesting, he beat local Lloyd Irvin product Ervin Brandon - a man who got his judo black belt at the Kodokan - to do it.
Two other Lloyd Irvin products, Ryan Hall and Nyjah Easton (sister of Mike Easton), also won in their respective weight divisions. Congratualtions to them all.

Why is Nyjah Easton listed with another team?
Several other Lloyd Irvin guys placed as well. Good on all of them!

It’s a misprint. Nyjah is definitely a Lloyd Irvin product.

Maia and Drysdale didn’t compete because of the move to MMA? Why?
by Yasnian on Jun 9, 2008 12:01 PM EDT 0 recs
You have to do..
...nothing but BJJ to compete well at that level. Not the world level, the championship level at the world level. Roger Gracie competed and won, but I don’t think his MMA training strays far from his BJJ. Jacare and Drysdale, by contrast, are really trying to learn MMA and probably haven’t practiced much with the gi recently. Just my hunch.

Not Sure...
Why everyone seems kind of shocked at Westbrook.
The guy is a world class athlete who has been training for some time now, at a great school. It wouldn’t have surprised me, to see him among the world’s best if he had started at a younger age.
Hey Luke, how big of an honor was that 1st bunch of black belt professors certified by the USJJ Federation?? Just curious.
"They said you was hung!!"
"And they was RIGHT!"
