Mike Dolce Speaks Out Against TUF

Looks like I'm not the only one who didn't enjoy this season of the Ultimate Fighter. Mike Dolce speaks out to MMA Weekly:

At the risk of pissing a bunch of people off, I’m going to tell you.

Personally, I knew something was seriously wrong with this production when, as a sequestered, professional athlete in the midst of a major sporting event, I could not obtain a free range chicken breast for almost 48 hours of repeated requests, but a bottle of tequila, a half rack of beer and a funnel could be delivered in twenty minutes at any time of day or night with a single belligerent phone call. All under the guise of trying to determine just who was The Ultimate Fighter…the epitome of professional athletics.

...

Is Spike TV, The Ultimate Fighter, the UFC or our rapidly growing fan-base really interested in finding the next great representative that can cause the most destruction to a rented home while getting drunk, pissing his pants and sacrificing his dignity?

I don’t think so.

Are they looking for a house full of socially inept, moral delinquents that couldn’t channel their mental energy into anything more meaningful than a wall mural of penises and vaginas?

What was once a ground-breaking format that introduced the world to the most exciting combat sport in history, has slowly degraded into a low-brow compilation of alcohol induced, frat boy antics that could serve to destroy the very concept it was intended to create.

No offense to the guy, but did he really believe TUF was about finding the best fighter?

And he was surprised that they would have alcohol readily available for a reality show. okeedokee.

The lesson here is get Mike Dolce his damn free range chicken breast.

who cares what dolce says really?

watching CB whoop ass for 2 min is worth it

by fanaddict on Jun 5, 2008 10:48 PM EDT reply actions

Wow, Mike Dolce is a master of the obvious.
Maybe he should go back to the IFL, seeing as how he sucked balls on a show filled w/ drunken idiots who kicked his ass.
No one in that that house will amount to anything, but the UFC will feed the winner some fights for sure.
Maybe Mikey should put that stupid bible down and train more…

I honestly think...

that 2-3 of the guys on the show will be damn fine UFC fighters (CB for sure). The majority of the cast will probably end up back on KotC shows…but there is a little talent at the top end.

I’d rather see CB vs Forest than Rampage vs Forest.

While the level of unprofessionalism isn’t exactly surprising, I’m a bit disappointed at the reaction of the ‘MMA community’ so far. You’d think we’d share his sentiments, but this is just reaffirming the reason why the guys are getting their beer and he’s not getting his free range chicken (to put it in perspective).

Jesus, any word on UFC’s ability to provide organic fruit?

Not sure but I hear they can make arrangements for a colonic in a flash.

I don’t recall any complaints from Mac Danzig last season.

(1) The part every season where they tear the house up has got to be one of the most excruciating things things to watch. These fighters seem to make an attempt to prove to America that they are, in fact, the neanderthals they appear to be at first glance. The best part is that this week’s episode should get at least a small bump in the ratings because of the CBS/EliteXC exposure.

(2) Mike Dolce is a pretty good writer.

(3) What’s with all the hate above?

by TheFightJournal on Jun 6, 2008 12:09 AM EDT reply actions

Very important to remember...

...that several fighters have said that the production crew ENCOURAGES them to trash the house before they arrive as well as during the show.

Also, every season the episode where they trash the house ends up on all the shows like “The Soup” and “Best Week Ever” so it is the big “exposure” thing for them.

Not to mention...

...if they really cared Dana would be in the house right after it gets tore up every season talking about how that isn’t how “** fighters” act…etc.

Instead most seasons he just giggles and says “what would you do if you were stuck in a house with 15 other guys?” Well dude…probably not that.

I thought it’s proven that the stupid childish shit is what sells the show. This season has been chock-full of fights and action yet it’s doing ‘average’ or less than average for ratings compared to previous iterations. Yeah the formula is likely stale but I think it would be safe to say that the neanderthal shit is what sells the show to some of the masses.
There is a reason why shows like the Bachelor, Big Brother, Real Life, etc does well. All the inane backstabbing and faux-drama gets viewers. Blame it on society, not just SpikeTV.

No Offense..

But doesn’t Mike Dolce look like a Nazi Skinhead standing in front of a swastika. I mean, shaved head, nazi flag colors. That picture looks like it was from Hitlers yearbook.

A little...

And to think this guy got offended at Jeremy May’s “jewish bitch” comment. No one tell him what Hitler said about the Jews.

by Sam Cupitt on Jun 6, 2008 3:50 AM EDT up reply actions

Wow, the level of discourse around BE dropped pretty severely all of a sudden.

I must Agree, after watching this past season. The Fear of been booted out seams to have been lost.

There given a good chance, a great shot at being in the UFC, and they take the piss. I sit there watching thinking ” Dana must think these guys are a right bunch of idiots”. I would of booted most of them out after what they did to that house, how where these kids raised?

Everything they need and want right there, along with a shot at some cash and fame in the UFC, and all they do is drink and moan about no women and freedom.

by Filby1 on Jun 6, 2008 4:28 AM EDT reply actions

Well said!

Dolce is a pretty eloquent guy…when I first read this, I thought he might be bitter about going out and losing right off the bat… but what he said makes sense. The show has become a contradiction. They want to show fighters as educated, intellegent, respectful guys, and instead, they wind up looking like an imitation of The Real World.

by Cmad77 on Jun 6, 2008 8:53 AM EDT reply actions

I agree with Cmad. What he’s saying may be obvious to all the ‘experts’ around here, but it still must have been frustrating to live through,.

by IImastersII on Jun 6, 2008 9:45 AM EDT reply actions

Is anyone actually watching?

I’m confused? Hasn’t there been a higher fight/show ratio on this season than any past season? Yes some of the guys are knuckleheads, but it looks like they’re focusing much more on putting fights at the forefront than in the past.

Every week. This season has been better than most.

by Richard Wade on Jun 6, 2008 8:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes!

I actually expected way more humor coming from Forrest and Rampage this season, they had their moments, but the show has been focused with putting on more fights this season. I think the casual fan who watches the show just watches for the entertainment value and aren’t really concerned with the fights per show.

As for the tearing up the house it’s gotta be a stipulation that they destroy it!

all you gotta do is...
