According to Robert Joyner of MMAPayout that's the rumor...could this also be more evidence of Gary Shaw being on his way out?
With their increasing financial stake in EliteXC, CBS are exerting their power in the board room, but word is that the Tiffany Network is also trying to influence match-making and booking decisions. Sources indicate to MMAPayout.com that there was significant internal pressure by the network to have Gina Carano appear on the July 26th card with just over a month's notice. That idea seems to have been nixed by Carano's camp. The second CBS card was thought to be lacking in star power, with CBS seeking to bolster the card with Carano's presence.
CBS's sole objective is to get as many people to watch CBS as possible. I don't think having Carano on the card matters much in terms of her adding an extensive amount of viewers that otherwise wouldn't watch the card without her on it. She's not THAT big of a star yet. So far there will be 3 title fights...and Nick Diaz who is from Stockton, California...in which this card will take place. The following fights listed will be title fights.
Robbie Lawler/Scott Smith 2
Jake Shields/Nick Thompson
Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva vs. TBA
CBS seeking to take control of the matchmaking is scary for more reasons than one. Lawler/Smith and Shields/Thompson should be barnburner's...it's sad that CBS doesn't realize that.
