I disagree with alot of this…are you posting this from just your opinion…or from where you think Zuffa may be lining these fighter’s up in terms of getting a title shot?

Me too

I dont understand how you have some guys so high. Koscheck and Bisping especially.

Read My Blog
"Life's tough, tougher if you're stupid."

by Brandon Jones on Jun 25, 2008 10:44 AM EDT reply actions

Because Koscheck beat Diego, TKOed Hazelett, and went 3 rounds with GSP.

Koscheck is good, like him or not. Other than the GSP fight, the guy has only lost 1 other Round in all his other UFC fights, and that was the hail mary knee that Fickett landed on him, in a fight Koscheck had dominated for 3 rounds. The guy has barely lost a round (other than GSP, the clear #1 in the division).

Have to agree somewhat. Please clarify if you think this is the “order” for title shots, or your opinion of the rankings.

Do you really think Bisping is better than Henderson, Almeida, Marquardt or about 5 other MWs?

I think you have over-ranked Kos, but I agree, he doesn’t get the credit he deserves and his next fight will be huge for his immediate future.

there are so many holes......

I see so many holes in your rankings, but the biggest glaring ommision is Dan henderson. Any reason why he was off your list?

nice attempt

but i see alot of things i do not agree with.

by ELL on Jun 25, 2008 1:19 PM EDT reply actions

My opinion only

My ranks are “my” opinons based off the UFC fights only. I based it off wins/loses, head to head fights and opponents.

DanHenderson is not on there because he hasn’t won yet in the UFC. I agree that he is a great fighter but the UFC has put him in there against tough guys (champs) and he’s lost.

Bisping has looked great in his first two fights at 185 and with marquardts lose I put Bisping in front of him. I had Marquart above Leites before that crappy lose. Marquart is actualy 6th on my list right now.

Koscheck is where he is at for actaully what HARDCHARGER states above. He might not be the most likable guy but give him some credit.

Keep the comments coming, Thanks

I may disagree in some instances, but thanks for the effort and the clarification.

Umm...ok

I still don’t agree with the majority of your rankings…

Sherk should still be #2
Hughes is still top 5 at WW
No way is Thiago ahead of Wandy or even Jardine
Werdum should be #1 nor Mir
Kongo should be ahead of Carwin at HW

There more but I’m too lazy to go into it.

by Tha Realness on Jun 25, 2008 1:29 PM EDT reply actions

OK, I can’t say to much about your rankings, without making my own, so…

These are based only on UFC fights, no Pride or anything else. The Champ automatically occupies the top spot.

HW—weakest division in UFC and MMA, imo.

1) Nogiera (Not putting Couture on the list) 2-0 in the UFC
2) Werdum 2-1 against top competition in the UFC
3) Mir 9-3 in UFC and former champ
4) Gonzaga 4-2 in UFC
5) Herring 2-2 in UFC
6) Kongo 4-2 in UFC
7) Cain V. and Shane Carwin both 1-0 in UFC, both have potential, both have not shown enough to be ranked higher than this based on UFC experience only.
9) Coleman 7-3 in UFC and former champ
10) Lesner 0-1 in UFC

Notes: Maybe Coleman should be higher? Or maybe not ranked? This is the problem I see when you limit your criteria.

LHW—Deep division, but stalled due to injuries and delays in fights.

1) Rampage 3-0 in UFC against 2 top guys and a revenge fight.
2) Chuck 16-4 in UFC and former champ
3) Lyoto 5-0 in UFC but hasn’t fought the top guys yet (I am a fan)
4) Forrest 6-2 in UFC
5) Wandy 2-3 in UFC
6) Shogun 0-1 in UFC
7) Rashad 6-0-1 in UFC but has yet to beat a top guy
8) Thiago Silva 4-0 in UFC but hasn’t fought top guys yet
9) Jardine 5-3 in UFC
10) Hammil 4-1 in UFC
10) Bonnar 5-3 in UFC

Notes: There are a few guys like Soko and Irvin that could interchange with the lower end, from fight to fight.

MW—1 top dog, then a great division aside from him, imo.

1) Anderson 6-0 in UFC (of interest, UFC lists him only as a LHW now, lol)
2) Franklin 10-2 in UFC and former champ
3) Henderson 2-2 in UFC
4) Okami 6-1 in UFC
5) Marquardt 5-2 in UFC
6) Almeida 2-2 in UFC
7) Bisping 6-1 in UFC but no top guys besides Hammil controversial dec.
8) Leben 8-3 in UFC
9) Kampmann 4-0 in UFC
10) Cote 3-4 in UFC

Notes: many up and comers and guys we are expecting good things from, like, Grove, Herman, Quarry, Leites, Lister, McDonald, Maia, Mcfedries and Palhares. could probably interchange a few at the lower end or even do a top 15 or 20.

WW—this is a division in transition, imo.

1) GSP 10-2 in UFC
2) Fitch 8-0 in UFC
3) Kos 8-2 in UFC
4) Alves 8-2 in UFC
5) Hughes 15-5 in UFC and former champ
6) Diego 8-2 in UFC
7) Serra 6-5 in UFC and former champ
8) Karo 9-3 in UFC
9) Swick 7-1 in UFC
10) Hazelett 4-2 in UFC

Notes: This division has a lot of guys coming up like Anthony Johnson, Yoshida, Kim and the TUF gang. Also a few in transition like Goulet and Marcus Davis. This could look very different in one years time.

LW—Perhaps the deepest and most exciting division, but I don’t see it opening up until Baby Jay leaves.

1) BJ 9-3-1 in UFC, former WW champ and would fight anyone, lol
2) Sherk 6-3 in UFC and former champ
3) Florian 7-2 in UFC
4) Franca 8-3 in UFC
5) Stevenson 5-2 in UFC
6) Huerta 6-0 in UFC, if he beats Florian, he will jump up
7) Griffin 4-1 in UFC
8) Diaz 4-0 in UFC
9) Edgar 3-1 in UFC
10) Guida 4-3 in UFC
11) Aurelio 2-1 in UFC
12) Lauzon 3-1 in UFC
13) Maynard 3-0-1 in UFC
14) Manny 2-1 in UFC
15) Fisher 6-3 in UFC
16) Pelligrino 3-3 in UFC
17) Tavares 3-2 in UFC
18) Clementi 5-3 in UFC

Notes: Damn I love the lws and I couldn’t stop at 10, lol. Imo, just about anyone in the 2nd half is interchangeable. Look at Clementi at 18, very improved and picking up steam. Or Pelligrino at 16, if he could have kept from getting triangled, he may well be in the top 10.

145’s…coming soon to to a UFC???

Overall, it is hard to rank just based on UFC. many of the guys had vast amounts of experience outside of the UFC, and we know that would change the rankings.

Yes, Vera is missing. I just don’t know where to put him, lol.

at HW, I would have him in the 4-7 range somewhere and I can’t rank him at LHW without a fight, though i suspect he will soon be in the same range of 4-7 or so.

Also, the records should probably be broken down for their current weight class, but I’m to lazy and with the amount of weight class changing that goes on, it isn’t really that big of an issue.

Also, I find it somewhat interesting that you based your rankings off of the UFC experience, but posted their overall records.

Hopefully this will get moved to the front page, because whether we agree or not on the spots, ranking UFC fighters alone, is a very good topic.

Good Idea

Thanks BJJDenver for your ranks. I agree that the ranks should be only the UFC fights. I’ll have to do that next time I rank them.

Anytime.

I said you over ranked Kos, and I just noticed i put him in the same spot, doh!!

Those are the worst rankings I have ever seen in my life. Talk about biased. Clay Guida 5? No Almeida or Henderson at Middleweight? Parisyan was 5 before his loss to Alves. Rashad 4th in LHW? Ha! Herring 3rd?? Vera wouldn’t be 4 is he stayed at HW. Carwin is not 5th…yet. That is crazy.
