UFC Officials Dissapointed with TUF Finale

The Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale Preview Photo

UFC wanted to air prelim fight on Spike......

Dave Meltzer is reporting that UFC officials were very unhappy about the fights going so long on last night's "Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale" because they wanted to show the Dustin Hazelett vs. Josh Burkman fight on Spike TV. That fight ended up winning "Fight of the Night" honors but wasn't shown due to time restraints.

You can currently watch the Hazelett vs. Burkman fight for free on www.ufc.com.

I had the same feeling coming away from the show, dissapointment!  The Riddel vs Rivera fight was about as exciting as Tim Sylvia VS Brandon Vera.  Same with the Tanner vs Grove fight.  While there was enough action to keep the ref from breaking, it was hardly entertaining and i think I'll call it the "lean and pray"

Maybe they shouldn’t waste 20 minutes interviewing dudes from some crappy TV show and showing previews for that awful looking Angelina Jolie movie.

Yeah

Joe Rogan was hyping it up pretty good, then they show the clip and it wasn’t that funny!

Not All of the fights were dissapointing, but I agree they could’ve had less advertising and showed more fighting.

OH yeah

What made the group of fights even worse for me was that I DVR’d it and never knew they showed the Mcfedries vs Eastman fight.

This is not the first event where the fights went over the slotted time and I missed something. Note to me to set the DVR to record for an hour after it’s over

They should stick to making the only TUF cast members to get televised being the finale. Riddle vs. Rivera was mildly interesting because of the talk by Rivera that he was going to retire if he lost and Riddle being a bit of a character on the show, but I can’t believe that most people ahead of time would not have expressed an interest in seeing Lister/Horn or Hazelet/Burkman instead of that fight. That one change alone would have made the televised card better.

Fisher/Stephens was a good fight to watch.
Sanchez/Fioravanti was a good fight to watch.
Grove/Tanner was not a bad fight to watch and had some great moments—that knee Grove delivered while Tanner had his other leg wrapped up was very Urijah Faber-BJ Penn -esque.
Dollaway/Sadollah obviously had to be televised, and was a good fight to watch while it lasted.

From a fight perspective, I thought the televised card was actually pretty good. Just take Riddle/Rivera out of there and put all of the TUF cast fights except the finale up on the web instead. Replace that one with one of the fights listed above, then try to convince Spike to let you forego the stupid promotions of upcoming television shows that are bound to fail anyway, and you’ve fixed the problems with this broadcast. Oh, and make it 2 1/2 hours instead of 2 hours so you can actually televise the fights you want to and get them in the allotted time. This show had to do enough ratings to warrant it—what else would people watch on Spike on a Saturday night anyway?

I agree with everything, but down playing the Hazelet/Burkman fight. I really wanted to see that one given Hazelet’s last fight. He looked great and is a future top WW. He shows a lot of potential at 22. Also, on Spike after the finale they REPLAYED the finale. They could have made it longer.

I didn’t downplay the Hazelet/Burkman fight. I said they should have shown that and/or the Lister/Horn fight instead of Riddle/Rivera. Or at least that’s what I meant to say and thought I did say.

Good point that the fact they replayed the finale immediately afterward clearly shows they could have made the show 2 1/2 or even 3 hours in the first place.
