Our Society Has Sunk to a Low Point, Says Moron About Mixed Martial Arts

Dana responds. More videos after the jump.

Star-divide

Here's the Elite XC post-fight presser, where $kala tells Shaw that "James Thompson has been rushed to the hospital after the fight... please pray for him," as Thompson is standing right there. James puts Shaw on the spot regarding his win bonus and Shaw threatens with "Not if he wants to be in this company in the morning." Unbelievable.

I don’t care what anyone says, I like Dana White and I think he does a very good job dealing with people like that.

I think Dana can be a good mouthpiece and I think this was OK. But this “is it more violent than football?!” thing has got to go. You are not ever in any way going to convince anyone that has even a shred of anti-MMA bias in them that guys kicking each other in the head or punching cauliflower ears is the same as dudes in full pads tackling each other. To the vast, vast majority of viewers, this is going to make Dana White sound kinda dumb.

100% right...

Yes, you can point out all of the football players who can’t walk 10 feet or who have no spinal column left after the brutal years played in the league. But the fact of the matter is…Football is the national game right now. Kids play the sport and damn near the entire country watches it on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. It does not LOOK as violent to people as a guy getting punched and elbowed in the face and bleeding all over. You can’t convince people that a “pure” sport like football is somehow less dangerous than a combat sport…no matter how true it may be.

Awesome Eye Nick!

I’d like to see her vs. Carano for hot chick of the night!

She’s a lot better looking than Gina.

You might think she's cuter, but

I think Gina’d be a lot more fun – did you ever date a girl that could hip toss you into her bed? It’s hot.

Don't believe a word I say, I don't train BJJ.

by jemaleddin on Jun 2, 2008 3:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah and I’m sure after the fight for who’s hotter, HOT BLONDE COP wouldn’t look so hot…

And there would be something to be said about Gina holding you in her guard or reversing you into the mount…

all you gotta do is...

Where ”...” means “doing an image search for Gina Carano.” :-P

There’s a handcuffs joke in here somewhere, but this is already too far off topic for my taste.

Off topic? There’s a pic of the cop right in the main entry!

I remember seeing her during the fight, and when I saw Nick post the pic of her I couldn’t stop laughing cause honestly I thought who else but me is watching the bodyguards for the fighters instead of the fighters themselves thinking “whoa, she could get it!”

all you gotta do is...

by imapimp08 on Jun 2, 2008 6:48 PM EDT up reply actions

We saw her, too. She was the topic of discussion up until about when the fight actually started.

Gina is hot, but Jesus that girl is something else.

Where By “something else” you mean an officer of the law who should be respected while she’s fulfilling her law enforcement duties, right? :-)

I don’t pretend to speak for pud333, but I’d say, “no.”

Ahh...

He must have meant, “One of God’s special children who we should treat like our sister and love with the pure love of Jesus.”

Or, and this isn’t very likely, “One hot little number that I could never ever pluck up the courage to talk to without either wetting myself or risking alcohol poisoning or both.” Because that’s what I’m thinking.

Don't believe a word I say, I don't train BJJ.

I’d put my money on the second, or if he’s luckier “someone he’ll picture while in bed with his actual girlfriend/wife.

Hehe. Check dude cop’s eyeline… yep, on Faber’s buttcheeks—busted! (not that there’s anything wrong with that, of course). But when you’re next to a blonde hottie like that and you’re staring at man-butt instead, you are definitely stuck on that team for life!

I live in St. Louis and Bryan Burwell is constantly writing columns about generational differences and racism and very rarely ever says anything that anyone pays attention to him. Most of the readers in STL hate him and don’t even bother reading him.

One note about the column, he mentions that:

It allows you to knee your opponent in the groin, then while he’s prone on the ground, pound him in the head, choke him, or squeeze his torso with your legs locked around him, attempting to rupture kidneys and squeeze the air out of lungs

So basically I would take anything he says with a grain of salt. Here’s the column link:

I really enjoy the fact that guys like Burwell don’t even bother to learn the basic rules of the sport.

by Richard Wade on Jun 2, 2008 12:58 PM EDT up reply actions

What do you mean?

Those rules all apply. Why just yesterday I saw a knee to groin followed by a kidney rupturing leg squeeze of doom.

They talked a little about the Elite XC event on 1st And 10 this morning. Rob Parker and Jay Crawford were predictably clueless. But Skip Bayless (while admitting he didn’t watch the fights) was surprisingly somewhat supportive of MMA. You can tell he didn’t know enough to make any definitive statement, but he didn’t vilify it like most of the ESPN clowns do. It’s funny, most people blast this guy every day, but I find myself agreeing with him about 75 percent of the time. Anyway, ESPN needs more personalities like Jim Rome, who actually support MMA.
