Because

It’s a pound 4 pound list, so beating somebody considerably smaller doesn’t help you as much. Nor does losing to somebody bigger hurt you. But beating bigger guys? That counts for a lot.

BJ Has 1 loss and 1 draw on his record at 155. His other losses include 2 at 170, to the two greatest welterweights of all time and 1 at 205 to Lyoto Machida, the undefeated guy who beat Tito, Rich Franklin, Stephan Bonnar and Sokoudjou.

Plus, he’s beaten 2 gracies at 185, and has defeated 7 champions of PRIDE, the UFC and Shooto, among other promotions. All while being a natural 155’er. So yeah, he’s above GSP. Maybe someday GSP will have a resume that impressive, but not yet.

And

...from all the evidence you present, I’m convinced! I love the way you’ve put your argument together! It’s masterful!

Seriously, come up with a counter-argument – the alternative is, “Oh, you were right! I didn’t know what I was talking about!” Which would also be fine.
