Tapout TV show puts the WWF in MMA

I remember being about six or seven and in tow behind my Dad as we made a detour through the TV section of a Department store.  Several men and their boys were watching whatever version of WWF existed on black and white TV screens back then.  My Dad, never one to pull an opinion, said in voice clearly meant to be heard by me...and them, "See that?  That's fake."  I've haven't had much use for wrestling ever since.

We watched boxing unitl Don King destroyed it.

Along came Dana White, Zuffa and the UFC and life is good.  Dana has done a good job of keeping the matches rolling.  Even throwing a bone to the fans by airing a couple fights on Spike instead of PPV. TUF has been Tivo worthy and Dana has earned my respect along the way.  Holding punks accountable in today's permissive society is good for the UFC.  There was the loser who went AWOL for a little poontang and got the boot.  Then there was the mini brawl that got a few guys booted.  And now, Pisspants JT gets kicked out of TUF for acting like an imbecile.  Oh well, at least he avoided the embarassment of losing to Amir.

Dana doesn't suffer fools and that's good for us fans.  Makes me wonder what he thinks of the TV show Tapout and their gay clowns with their faggy makeup and costumes.  Dana should make a call to Tapout and ask them if they really want to align themselves with the WWF.  Real MMA fighters might have a little body art, but skills still rule the day.  Army hats, makeup, clown wigs and jock straps as fashion accessories belong in the WWF, not MMA.

They seem like nice guys

The Tapout guys seem like nice guys, like they really care about the fighters.

That said, they do remind me a LOT of the Village People…

Nice. I think that’s the first homophobic gay slur I’ve seen posted over here. Almost made me think I had inadvertently visited fightlinker this morning instead of Bloody Elbow.

That ridiculous comment aside, I think you have to take the TapOut show for what it is - it’s part of TapOut’s marketing, on a little viewed network. Like it or not those “gay clowns with their faggy makeup and costumes” have made a fortune creating the single most recognizable brand of clothing in mma. I think the show is mostly ridiculous, too, but I watch it just for the rare glimpses of some up and coming and as of yet undiscovered talent that they stumble across from time to time. I’ve seen a number of former “TapOut” guys end up on cards in places like the WEC - Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone is actually putting himself in line for a potential title fight soon and is slated to take on Razor Rob in his next fight, and he pulled out a sick submission in the last WEC event with Faber/Pulver. So at the very least the show does go out there and find some legitimate fighters, gives them a break with some sponsorship and exposure, and let us see them.

Agreed.

You were doing good, until you for some reason unbeknown to me, decided to throw that juvenile, uneducated remark in.

"They said you was hung!!"

"And they was RIGHT!"

As for your TapouT point…

You know, these guys grate on my nerves and overshadow the good things they do for mma, by being camera hogging clowns.

This show would be great, if they subtracted their “characters” from it. I would love to see a show about up and coming fighters in some of the great training camps around the country, that we always hear about. I wouldn’t even mind some behind the scenes workings of TapouT as a company.

Unfortunately, their need to “keep it real”, by putting on costumes and acting like fools, detracts from the fighters and the training, making the show a must-not-see for me.

I agree. I’m enough of a freak for watching anything mma related that I can find that I dvr the show and fast forward through about anything featuring “SkyScrape” and just get to the training, the fights, and the occasional photo shoot or visit to the designers, factory, etc. I almost think if they just got rid of SkyScrape the rest of the show would, almost by default, become pretty solidly watchable!

I like the premise of the show, even though I have to download it because it’s not available here. I just don’t understand why they haven’t shed at least some of the costumes and shit. The brand is pretty recognizable at this point, what with TV ads and nearly every fighter sporting some Tapout gear on.
The ‘style’ they sport suggests to someone just watching the show that the sport has a bus full of lunatics taking “cage fighters” to matches, that that as you will.

Zuffa owns Tap Out and the show on versus

Tap Out shot the reality pilot at kage kombat http://www.kagekombat.com where Jake Shields fought Toby Imada. This is when Charles aka Mask confirmed to me that zuffa owns Tap Out and this show. It is another show Zuffa uses to promote there fights and Tap Out clothing line. That is why affliction is to ban Tap Out at there event.

GO FOR THE NOKOUT NOT THE TAPOUT!

I can’t blame them for showing their characters that made them who they are now.. and I think you have to stick to what brought you success.. I know the costumes looks silly and I also know that they sometimes roll or spar with the athletes, but do they do them both at the same time? I haven’t seen the show, but If they did, that would be really silly.
