Dana White on Anderson Silva's Move to 205
Fronted by Luke Thomas.
ESPN has the preview for tomorrow's episode of MMA Live posted, and it's basically a Dana White soliloquy on Anderson Silva. Oh, and of course a little promotion for the July 19th show; notice how he made sure to get a "for free" in there:
Anderson Silva is, uh, is-- you know, when I always talk about "real fighters," this guy is, is definitely a real fighter. He wants to fight all the time. Most mixed martial artists will fight three times a year; this guy wants to fight six times a year. He's basically cleaned out the 185 pound division, and he's always looking to challenge himself, so he wanted to move up to 205 and test the waters there. You know, I'm not gonna tell him "no." I mean, right now-- it's never been a better time to be a mixed martial arts fan than it is right now. I mean, we've got the pound-for-pound... You can turn on SpikeTV on July 19th and, for free, see the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world, you know, make his first move up to 205 pounds. It's a great time for fans right now.

Below is a transcript of the call between UFC matchmaker Joe Silva and James Irvin, courtesy of jackal Pauli:
Joe: "Hey, yo, James, you there?"James: "Yeah, what’s up?"
Joe: "What are you doing on the 19th of July?"
James: "Well, i was planning on doing some rehab for a random freak fireworks related injury I’m figuring will happen on the 4th… why?"
Joe: "We were wondering if you’d take a fight that night. It’d mean a lot to us."
James: "I guess I could be ready in time… who did you want me to fight?"
Joe: "Silva."
James: "A rematch with Thiago? That’s cool, I guess."
Joe: "No, not that Silva."
James: "You want me to fight Wanderlei? Wow. That’d be pretty major, but yeah, I think I could take him. Doesn’t he have parkinson’s?"
Joe: "No, not Wandy."
James: "Then… what Silva did you have in mind? I can’t fight you, Joe, and there’s no Silvas that i know of left at 205."
Joe: "Anderson."
James: "…"
Joe: "James? You there?"
James: "Reserve my ambulance."

Moving up, or running away...
Silvas move is going to bring about some exiting fights, but I can’t shake the feeling that he went up in weight to run away from the enevitable showdown between him and GSP.

What? You do realize that he’s not abandoning the MW class just for this fight, right? He’s planning on fighting at both weight classes and defending his MW title yet. With all due respect, I think the suggestion that Anderson Silva is moving to LHW with the possibility of facing fighters like Rampage, Liddell, and Machida as a way of running away from GSP is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve read in quite a while.

The content of your comment sounds like a joke, but the tone suggests you’re serious. I assure you Silva is not running away from an “enevitable [sic] showdown” with St. Pierre.
